Re-naming a Boat

Morning All,

What's the general concensus on boat re-naming.

I was always under the impression that it's a bit of a bad luck thing.

I've taken over my Dad's boat and the current name "Tuna" has always grated me (She came with the name from the previous owner).

I've re named a few of my boats with no bad effects..........
This subject has been aired here quite a few times,suggest trying a search.
Or add a few letters and call her "STUNNA"

Personally, I walk under ladders, have renamed my boats, spilt salt without throwing some over my shoulder and broken mirrors... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Just to add my twopeneth - I changed the name on my boat about 2 months ago. Approx. £3000 later due to various faults on the boat does make me wonder if I should have done things a little different!

Sorry, been out of the office today or I would have replied earlier.

Did try a search as I guessed there must be something but I didn't come up with anything, still getting used to the forum.

hhhmmm..I always throw salt over my left shoulder, have never walked under a ladder and considering I have a massive project to get her restored I think I'll just leave things the way they are for the mo...I don't wish to displease the sea Gods /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Aahhh but that's the thing. I'm not actually changing too much. The Engine has been rebuilt and is going back in plus the stern drive.

This is all a learning curve for me, there was me thinking ah, bit of a service on the stern drive and the jobs a good'n.....but the more I read the more I realise they aren't as simple as I first thought.
I've been giving it some serious thought today and looks like when I get back to the UK in a couple of weeks the leg could be heading to a pro for a full overhaul. I shall have to speak with the chap who is carrying out the major work to see how comfortable he is with stern drives.

Think I'll wait a while and get everything up and running properly....you never know, it may grow on me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Renamed my boat...lots of things went wrong until i went through the renaming ceremony and did the little jig....and broke some bubbly on the bow...the kids thought it was great...the french thought i was strange....maybe I am

I didnt have a choice - when I spotted my boat she was called "Private Joke" ..... which I think now I have the documetnation ws renamed from something else .... anyway I bought her ... when I went back to the yard the name hade been removed from the hull, I aksed why and they said that it was Part One registered and the name went with the owner to his new boat ..... so I had to name her again - Hence IBIS .... have not had any bad luck (well to do with boating) in the two years that I have owned her - unless you call the weather bad luck but then this is affecting everyone so sorry!!!!!!

I have never done it before but the next has an awful name !

My boats names: Minder,Summer storm,Elfteros (fredoom in Greek)

But the next one is Irene J ?

Can not keep that?

My 15 ft day boat was called "Lady Jane II" when I got her.

As you say, you can't have stupid, pretentious names.
