As the title says, I am about to re apply a d-ring patch to a pvc tender.

The question is do I need to remove the old 2 part glue before applying new 2 part glue to the tender and patch?

If so, what is the best way to remove it?

If I leave the old glue on I take it that I will need to reactivate it with acetone (do not have any MEK) and then apply the glue as per usual?

Any advice appreciated.

Lots of advice on the Polymarine website Polymarine Paints, Adhesives, Parts & Accessories | Everything to keep RIB's and Inflatables in good repair & great condition

In particular https://www.polymarineshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/AdhesiveGuide-PVC-UK-Master2023.pdf

I would remove as much old adhesive as possible by careful sanding followed by solvent

Note Polymarine 2903 Solvent Cleaner is a mixture of butanone ( MEK) and tetrahydrofuran. THF is a powerful solvent for PVC and I do not believe acetone or MEK alone will be as effective in preparing/priming the PVC

Note also that the PVC adhesive does not adhere to rubber. Rubber D ring patches must therefore be primed with Hypalon adhesive

Should have said, pvc tender.

Thanks for the info, job done. Well, I’ll see when I lift by the d-ring in a weeks time!
