Hi all,

It's my first time here, and my first proper dabble with motor boats.

My parents bought a new 2004 Rigiflex Cap 400 back when I was a kid, which was used for a few years then barely touched since about 2007. Ever since it has been sat in their yard totally unused.

Two weeks ago we went to visit them and whilst there had a Covid self-isolation warning, so ended up down there for 10 days total. The sun came out so we decided to spend the time fixing up the boat trailer, allowing us to tow it home with us a couple of days ago to see if we can get the boat itself fixed up.

It has a Selva Maiorca 35hp two-stroke which was last run in 2014. It turns freely, sounds like it has good compression, and goes in and out of gear.

I'm fairly mechanically minded as my usual hobby is old cars. The trouble is that I don't so much know where to start with an outboard (or two-stroke). What items would you all suggest going through before starting it? I'm going to change the fuel lines first, as some have snapped due to age. I figured the gearbox might need its oil changing too, but can't think what to do beyond that.

Any advice on where to begin/what to look at would be much appreciated!

Is there a spark? You might get lucky with just feeding it some fresh fuel and it will start. If not then carbs off, clean the insides of the float bowls, douse everything with carb cleaner and blow through passages with compressed air to shift varnish deposits.

Thank you, that sounds a very logical place to start!

The carbs look like a complete pain to access, so I'm hoping not to have to remove them. I'm already a little concerned about how I'm going to get to the fuel lines feeding them that need replacing.

Another question I have is about the height of the boat on the trailer. The boat is very nearly sat on the wheel arches, but the roller mechanism doesn't appear to be height adjustable. I'm thinking about installing larger rollers, but not sure if there is anything else I could do instead?
