Raymarine radar + android tablet? MFD?

I've got an offer on a cheap radome, minus display. We don't currently have a suitable plotter or display.

Do I need to buy a Raymarine display to go with this? Would another manufacturer's be compatible? Is there some other way, e.g. via an Android tablet?

I'm not entirely against the idea of installing a proper MFD at the helm. We're a bit tight for space and a single unit that can display everything might make more sense than a bunch of individual instruments. Then the individual displays could go down below as repeaters, and for backup if the MFD failed, I assume.

But I'll admit I don't actually know the first thing about any of this!

So, to drift my own thread a bit...

The radar is just one piece of a bigger puzzle. We are looking at a wholesale revamp of our instruments.

The boat has hardly anything on it at the moment- an old ST6002 autopilot and ST60+ depth sounder, both at the helm. These work but the display on the depth is badly burned, although useable.

We also have, but have not yet installed, an Onwa plotter with AIS, and Raymarine wind and depth displays for the more modern generation, plus a corresponding autopilot system. I'm not sure of the exact model numbers on these but they all start with an 'i'.

What would be the most sensible way forward, starting from here? We want a depth sounder that is easier to read, and obviously we want the wind instrument. We would like a plotter display at the helm, however room is a bit tight on the pedestal for anything too big. I also like the idea of being able to keep tabs on everything from down below, and if it's not too much faff, from my phone. Maybe it's just me but sometimes on the middle of the night, lying in your bunk, a gust can sound much stronger than it actually is, and only a look at the wind instrument will reassure me that everything is ok.

If I splash out on, say, a 9" Axiom MFD to mount at the helm, could I then use that as plotter, radar, depth, and wind instrument? I understand it wouldn't be as good as dedicated displays, it's a compromise. I would maybe keep the autopilot controls, I like the idea of being able to hit a big physical button for that.
The surplus displays would then go down at the chart table.
I'm assuming that the Onwa would be unlikely to want to talk to the other hear. I think it may be NMEA0183 and the Axiom will be 2000.

Maybe I've got my wires crossed, and maybe there's a more sensible way of achieving what I want?

Likely i50/i60. Depth transducer will likely fit the i50

Yes to all of that, keep the autopilot control, although you can engage it from, the Axiom. My main flybridge MFD is a Garmin GPSMAP, with radar, AIS, depth etc, no separate displays, all works perfectly, as would the Raymarine.
The surplus displays would then go down at the chart table.

If the Onwa is only 0183 it would be worth fitting a converter so you get the AIS at the helm.

Looks sound to me.

Thanks Paul, very helpful.
I'm looking at £100 or so for the converter? Would that only allow one 0183 device on to the network?
I think the older autopilot and depth will be 0183 so would using them as repeaters require a converter each?

Get one that allows more than one 0183 device, although i can't see anything other than the Onwa that's 0183.

These will both be Seatalk, not 0183. The ST6002 can be connected to the i50/i60 with a Seatalk to SeatalkNg cable. The ST60 depth can be connected to the ST6002 with a Seatalk cable.
