So I have a Garmin GPS Map750 7” chart plotter at the chart table which has Garmin Blue charts. I only really use it to show AIS targets as I hate the look of the charts and essentially use Navionics on my 10” Sailproof tablet. On the other hand the Garmin doesn’t need charging and the tablet refuses to establish a wireless connection with the AIS. There is a deal around on a 7” Raymarine Elements with Raymarine Lighthouse charts for Western Europe. How do these compare to Navionics? I think higher spec plotters are wasted on me as I don’t have anything networked. My Ocean Signal ATB1 AIS outputs NMEA 2K as well as 0183

I use both Raymarine Light House on an Axiom+ plotter and Garmin Boating (aka Navionics) on my tablet. The Lighthouse charts are better visually than Navionics. Both have the similar tidal information, arrows and plots. Lighthouse has a natty tidal gauge at various stations which can be useful. I think, visually Lighthouse has better symbols for rocks that are clearer to read than Navionics. However, there is not much in it to be honest. Both also have their weaknesses, and vector data can be missing from each, that would be on a UKHO raster chart or Imray digital chart.

I have Navionics on my tablet anyway the comparison is with old Garmin blue charts which I’m not even sure Garmin use now since they bought Navionics. I also have raster Admiralty charts on my tablet.
