Raymarine instrument covers

Anyone that is experienced with CAD software can quickly create the STL file for something like an instrument cover provided they have access to an original to measure - I've created them for B&Q instruments for a friend and it took me less than half an hour.

Something as big as a plotter cover would probably take 20 hours to print however... As I said if had rough dimensions I could see if my printer could print something this big.

ST60s are regular instruments - about 4 and a half inches square - the cover should print up in well under 10 hours.

Yes ST60 covers are not too big and I have printed some for a user. But RichardS wants a cover for a C80 plotter

I was about to say the same - large even for many lightweight industrial printers.

I measured mine so I can try and knock something up out of Sunbrella as suggested by BelleSerene and it's 28.2 cm across by 21.1 cm high. The main body in 1cm deep but the single knob sticks up by another 1.5cm.

The covers for the Raymarine ST60 instruments in my cockpit have mysteriously disappeared.

I'm now looking for replacements. The going rate on eBay seems to be something like £25 each. For a crummy plastic cover!

Has anyone suggestions for alternatives?

I have a square ceiling light cover which is a perfect fit.

There are at least two different (and incompatible) versions of the ST60 covers. I have three older instruments, where the cover is angular at the corners and one newer one which has rounded corners.

Not entirely ‘incompatible’, as with a bit of deformation the rounded corner one will fit tightly on the older instruments. I know because my one square cornered ST60 cover kept disappearing – naively I assumed it was because of wind! – and I know have a round cornered one which does not (and does protect the display from sun light, which is my principal concern).

Firstly there is a nice stl "model" of an STL cover. I printed it and it fits perfectly. I then made some covers incorporating the boat's name

There are now newer filaments. ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate ) is UV and weather resistant. It comes in a variety of colours. I have been printing in grey as it kind of matches other Raymarine bits.
An alternative is a flexible filament which is a bit more like rubber. Probably not as weather proof but more like the modern flexible instrument covers. It is heat resistant to 121C

I have a 3D printer. However I cannot find the stl file on the usual sites. So what "we" need is someone with a 3D scanner who can scan a cover and then produce the stl file for printing. I doubt that Raymarine would let us have the technical drawings or CAD file

Last autumn I investigated getting "ST60" covers commercially blow-moulded. I provided two examples and an instrument to a specialised firm and they quoted £4,000 for tool making and then 90p per unit in polypropylene with a minimum order level of 500. I worked out that, depending on VAT treatment, I would need to sell between 270 and 330 at £20 each net of selling costs to break-even. I decided not to go ahead as I didn't think I could sell that many.

I printed a couple from a random blue colour last week during a rare lull in printing buoys and boats, they look great and despite being a funky blue - will serve purpose for this season nicely

When my son did some printing for me the finished article had a shiny smooth finish. He said that he had intended to use the textured plate to give a matt finish but he forget to change it.
