Raymarine i50 &i70

Does it matter which order these are plugged into the backbone? I have an i50 speed then i70 then i50 depth. All instruments have power but the i70 will read the depth but not the i50?? Any ideas? This is a new install, but everything seems to be connected ok, and they all have power....

Shouldn't make any difference at all. Best to plug them in with power off anyway.

At start-up they should each claim an address, which is standard N2K behaviour.

My first guess would be that you have two sources of depth on the network, even if one is an echo of some sort. I presume there is a screen on the i50 to choose the source (I only have an i70, p70 & Garmin displays on my boat but they all have that same functionality to choose a source).

Have you plugged the transducer into the i 50 or the i70?. whichever one you plug it into makes the other a repeater & that may be where the problem occurs. Perhaps swoping over may solve the problem

The transducer goes through an ITC5, that then goes to the backbone which ultimately feeds the i50 & i70. All a bit odd. i'll ring Raymarine.

Are all the displays plugged into the backbone, or are any plugged into other displays?

The installation instructions talks about balancing the system in terms of where the power feed is. Is yours ok?

Is the software up to date? Might be worth checking which PGN's are being used by the different components. It would be surprising if there was an oddity here with only one manufacturer, but it was a source of problem in my system.

I have had the raymarine dealer aboard the boat this morning updating my software & I mentioned your query. He said that he would probably plug the transducer direct to the depth display to start with.But it was only a passing comment whilst we were chatting & he does not know what your set up is.

I don't know if this helps you or not, my system has 3 @ i70, 2 @ p70, 1 @ r70 and 2 e125 MFD. Both the depth and wind connect to the back bone via a ITC5, at the base of the mast, and depth and wind are available on all the displays.
The displays are generally connect via Raymarine Seatalk NG, 5 way adaptor A06064.
It all worked out of the box.

Thanks all. It looks like l need to set the i50 depth as a repeater as the depth unit could have a direct feed and it needs to know where the signal is coming from, either as a secondary unit (the ITC5 counts as the master unit) so as a repeater. I spoke to Raymarine and they said this should solve the problem. I'll try and test it on Friday. The same issue doesn't occur on the speed i50.

Just an update. All is well but I had to do a reset on the i50, then change the designation from Master to repeater. All good now.
