Come on Mike F - out with it!
Er yes. I know its against forum regulations for a forumite to buy another boat without discussion and the prior approval of the forum but impulse got the better of me. We're on our first shakedown cruise now exploring the Ligurian coast in Italy. I'm very pleased with the boat and I've been very pleased with the buying process in Italy and I will put a thread on the forum next week about our experience with some pics

I guess one might question how meaningful any such figure is likely to be. There are many variables that influence the speed of a boat over a long passage - in the absence of up-to-date weather forecasts covering the entire passage, I would think that any ETA has to be treated with a large degree of scepticism.
maby, providing you are cruising at a constant speed, the ETA info is pretty accurate and for me very useful because it dictates my cruising speed. If you have to get to your destination by a certain time or before nightfall or to meet a tidal window, knowing your ETA will decide your minimum cruising speed

Aside from seconding what Deleted User already said in general, there's another point worth mentioning.
Obviously, in a long passage, the ETA to the next waypoint is all you need to know, even if you have another few waypoints after the passage, i.e. for navigating inside a gulf, or through a big harbour, etc. (as also kashurst pointed out).
But if you cruise for instance the Croatian archipelago, even if you just want to reach B from A, you must draw a route that involves a LOT of legs, with various waypoints in between, because you must go round the islands.
Most of the routes I still have in the memory of my plotter are made of at least a dozen of legs - and often much more.
And even with my '95 vintage plotter I can have both the final ETA and the ETA to the next waypoint visible at all time.
Bottom line, while I agree that it's not a "must have" for cruising anywhere you want, including the example I just made, I also think it's hard to excuse Raymarine for not including this small bit of software in their units... :ambivalence:

Excellent news, congratulations. Look forward to your thread in due course.

Sitting at home reading through the manual for Lighthouse 2, which I have just installed, the manual shows that the chart application data boxes can display "Route ETA" and "Route TTG", not sure if this is part of what you are looking for because I'm still getting used to the system.

Hoorah. Perhaps they have finally listened! Will install lighthouse 2 this weekend and report back. :)

Interesting, would like to hear more. I too am a Raymarine fan and I think it may be because I am familiar with their operating systems (not beneath) and I also like their graphic display and refresh far more then some of the others. I'm not into touch screens btw.

Congrats Deleted User, +1 on looking forward to hearing more. The ol' impulse buy eh?

Ok only a month late. Installed lighthouse 2.

It does indeed now allow TTG route and ETA route to be selected in data boxes. Hoorah. Not distance to end of route unfortunately, but hey still an improvement.

This sounds like good news. How do you obtain and install lighthouse 2?
