Ok,

I know its a long shot, but,

Anyone have access to a circuit diagram for the c/e 70/120 plotters ?

The bit I'm interested in is the backlight psu.

These are obselete, no spares available & I doubt Raymarine closed shop would be interested in looking at it for under a grand.

I have replaced the mosfets in this, which was dead, a normal fault in the c/e120 where the psu is overstressed driving the larger cold cathode backlight tubes.

It works, but the voltage is low, so only the ends of the tubes light.

Normally I could trace the circuit from the pcb, but with multilayer boards it is difficult.

A diagram would make things a lot easier !

Cheers,

Amazingly, I find that my collection of random pdf files includes a C120 Service Manual, which might help you. PM me with your email address if you'd like a copy.

Not looked at this unit, but is there any possibility of converting to LED backlighting? Lots of kits on the market for standard LCD screens.

That is one of the options I thought about, if all else fails I'll go that route.

But the OCD in me is wondering how to integrate it with the backlight level control !

Just need to carry several ND filters to take it down.

But seriously that might be a problem, although if luck were with you the driver board(s) might be compatible as far as level control goes.

If you've got the circuit working then I'm sure you'll get there, hope the HT transformers are OK. Sounds like it's that initial spike and or timing are the issue now.

Good Luck

Must be the season for E120 backlight failure as mine went last week. Seems to generate enough light for night sailing and "responds" to the brightness control, but daytime is impossible. So I'm not sure what has gone. Would be interested in the solution.

I replaced the whole circuit board, but it was like pulling dragons teeth to get hold of one. The spares guys are under strict instructions not to sell them to anyone other than a repair agent. That was two years ago so I don't know what the situation is now.

Pretty shabby if you cant get hold of the parts. RayMarine always used to be really good on all that stuff.

cheers,

Dick

the backlight on my E120 occasionally flickers, usually at moments seemingly chosen to inflict maximum concern. on searching for info on the problem i came across this (maybe from this forum so apologies if already well known)

it was enough to convince me its not a DIY job - but if others can reassure me otherwise i'll fret about its inevitable demise a trifle less.

Hi
You will find a circuit diagram for the c/e 70/120 plotters on this address (US patent office patent no. US 6,879,114 B2)

Hello, I think my backlight is also the problem with my e120 - the display is fine on the repeater monitor below. I've read the link on this - definitely outside my capability. Any ideas where i can find an expert. I can get to Solent, Essex, London and anywhere in between pretty easily?
