After the housing disintegrated i took my st4000 mk2 apart and decided to service it. It worked ,but grugingly with a grind.

The drive belt was tatty. New bits obtained , i have been trying to get the bearings to stay in the rollers and fit the new drive ring piece for days now. The last drive ring was warped/cracked from use. FRUSTRATED!!

Is there a trick to this ? It seems so tight I cannot see it can be done. My fave YouTube is no help.
Fitting the ring over the bearings seems impossible. (and yes, i have retrieved all the bearings several times from the shed floor now!!!)

HELP !

If you read the instructions you will have a eureka moment...at least I recall having one many years ago although I can't recall the procedure now but as has been said it is not obvious... Btw a good tip is to cover the finger holes in your sole if you are working in the saloon....

I did this the other day. Having ordered some ball bearings to replace the ones I lost. It was a 2 person job and I got my wife to help. I think we got the first 17 or something in and then we kind of lifted the cage just enough to slip the next one in. Second only to reinstalling g the lower leg on the outboard for fiddle factor
