The GPS antenna for my AIS650 has stopped working. Is there anything special about it that means I can't replace it with an aftermarket marine antenna?

Any idea why it's stopped?

Are you sure its the antenna? What are the symptoms?

I'm not sure, but I connected proAIS2 and the GNSS screen said it could see only 3 'satellites not used for navigation' (blue bars). Then I connected the GPS for an Iridium GO which showed a lot of 'proper' satellites. The AIS650 then passed all the send and receive checks.

What were you thinking I might have wrong? I have other issues.

We had something similar that eventually was traced to internal corrosion of the coax cable near the GPS antenna, had to change it as coax moulded into housing

Fair enough - your diagnosis seems very clear, @goeasy123

On some AIS units (most?) the external antenna is optional and they normally work just fine using their internal antennas, but it seems like the AIS650 doesn't have an internal one.
