On Monday, I finished a second visit down to the Ray Sand to collect data to finish the first data collection by Gladys and I (and Pontius). This year we had extended the area to both the west and east side of the 'buoys'. hence needing two days work on the tide. As a result of the work, I have posted a new 2022 chartlet. Download a copy (FREE!
) at Downloads (4th item).
There has been (in my view) little change. Best water remains along or just to the east of the 1 degree E meridian. The old channel remains the 'hump' across it north of the Crouch No 3. But of course if one has enough tide and less draught....
The Crouch Harbour Authority have commissioned the Port of London Authority to professionally survey the Ray Sand and that will happen later this year. As a result the CHA will wait for the product of that before they decide if any changes happen. I have sent in our product to the CHA and PLA and I will send ours into the UKHO as well.
In due time it will be interesting to see how the later survey compares: let's hope it doesn't become an 'egg on'!
