I'm going to replace this elbow and hose tail on my SD-20 saildrive seacock.

The seacock is relatively new, 3 years old, a quarter turn valve used to replace the useless yanmar tap thing, I am not sure if the elbow and hose tail were new at the same time, I assume they were to suit the new seacock.

Any ideas what has made it corrode? wrong material?

I'm going to take the seacock off the saildrive, which looks easier than trying to get the elbow off, then remove the rest and reassemble with new, should any kind of compound, locktite or even PTFE tape be used on the threads?

Corrosion is due to the seawater leak. The hose could fit the tail better. Almost certainly the elbow is made from 60/40 brass, which has limited life in seawater. The corrosion may only affect the surface and could clean up nicely.
