I have heard that an isolator will not be much use on a plastic boat. They work better on a steel hull. Any thoughts?
The hull material is largely irrelevant. The purpose of the isolator is to block stray currents when you are hooked up to the mains - even if you are not drawing mains current.
In fresh water, magnesium anodes are recommended or aluminium if you are in brackish water or alternate between fresh and salt water.
