How are things going on this front for Nav etc? Any developments? ...given that I have only just found/understood some of the technology and bought one.
I am of course now looking at how to employ my 30 quids worth?

I bought one with similar long term intentions to use it on the boat. My plans at the moment are to use it to monitor engine temps, tank levels etc and possibly longer term allow for remote monitoring via the net eg anchor watch. Such a small device with so much potential though I think it lacks raw power to handle graphics required for chart plotting use.

There is a forum group for the raspberry pi:
http://www.ybw.com/forums/group.php?groupid=75
As with many forum groups, no-one really seems to go there much

This multiplexing software
http://www.stripydog.com/kplex
was written with the pi in mind, especially when using the pi as a wireless access point with an appropriate wifi dongle or otherwise bridging NMEA-0183-styley data between serial and/or network interfaces.

Could also be handy as a component in a system to achieve keith-i's net monitoring objectives mentioned in post #2.
