Rally to Ashmount

Andrew's old boat is indeed my new boat, and a good solid lump she is too (c:

She is drying out (the January custom?) on the hard at Bell Weir boats at the mo. Depending on how much rain we get over the next few weeks, she will be relaunched in February or March, back onto her mooring at the foot of my garden; about a mile or two downstream from Gavi I believe.

Propsed date for Rally to Ashmount

How does the weekend of May 10th/11th suite everyone?

It's the wekend after the Thames Valley Rally if anyone already has plans to be up/down river in Henley.

The way the rain is coming down, she will probably re-launch herself! I'll keep an eye out for you then when you get back on the water if you are near Gavi's place, no doubt we'll see each other oot and aboot. Hopefully catch up at Gavi's second home, the Swan in Staines! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

On the Surrey side no doubt /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As for The Swan, Mr Brad, that'll be my third home as there is somewhere a little bit closer! Speaking of which, it is nearly 6pm...

Re: Propsed date for Rally to Ashmount

Hi All

From a selfish perspective and for those of us that have approx 2/3 days trip to arrive on a Saturday and have gremlins in tow

The following dates are during school holidays which would allow us/those with the same issue to arrive on the Saturday

w/e of 12th/13th April

w/e of 19th/20th April

w/e of 31st May/1st June

If none of these suit and I am happy to help organise anything I can assist with , will try and find a way to get there but just to propose a few options if they suiot everyone and obviously Byron.

Agree we need to fix a date and then go with it else it will never happen so sorry if this complicates

Cheers

Nick

Re: Propsed date for Rally to Ashmount

I think April may be a little early, I can't make the May/June weekend and I'm not sure Ashmount is available then.
Byron asked me to remind everyone they can arrive a week early and/or leave a week later. Just in case people are coming a long way and don't want to take time off work. Also anyone trailing their boat will have launch & storage for their trailers. Similarly if anyone wishes to come by car and/or caravan that's ok too.
We'll leave the propsed date of May 10/11th until we hear further. There are other dates available.

Re: Propsed date for Rally to Ashmount

The first date (w/e of 12th/13th April) works best for me and my crew of "issues". (SWMBO is a teacher so she is tied to school holidays too).

(All the schools will be back to school for the 4 days following the TVR, Ian.)

Also, the GCSE exams start the week following May 10/11. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Propsed date for Rally to Ashmount

May 10th/11th ok for us, however we're only 2 hours away by boat. It will be difficult for many outside of the school holidays.

Re: Propsed date for Rally to Ashmount

10/11 May OK for us too... need to talk SWMBO out of a walk on 10th (won't be a problem) and would need to make arrangements for Turkish GP on the Sunday. Neither really an issue /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Propsed date for Rally to Ashmount

10/11 May looks plausible, but might involve a positioning run the weekend before and again the weekend afterwards, I reckon its a serious two day run from Sunbury. Anyone consider linking up en route for a night passage?

Yes! it is a hard two day run from Sunbury. As you say the trick will be to get here the week-end before, go home leaving the boat and come back the following week-end. The beauty of a rally here is the fact that your craft can be left without incurring any charges and within reason it is safe albeit I cannot guarantee safety.
Incidentally both Cleve & Goring have after-hours power which is a great help.

You could always come to the Thames Valley Rally in Henley the weekend before and then take your boat up to Byron's on the Bank Holiday Monday ready for the following weekend.

Re: Rally to Ashmount - overnight stay

Such is the excitement about the Rally taking place I'm pleased to say that MDL have kindly offered an overnight berth at any of the MDL Thames Marinas for £10 for anyone travelling to or from Byron's. (that's Penton Hook, Windsor or Bray).
Thanks to Mike Gates.

Re: Rally to Ashmount - overnight stay

Hi Guys

So are we settled and confirmed by Byron as ok for the 10th/11th ??

If so will do all I can to get there by boat but if impossible will drive over.

Re: Rally to Ashmount - overnight stay

It seems the 10/11th is acceptable and ok with Byron. We'll do all we can to help those of you who have a long way to come and would welcome you arriving by car if all else fails.
All the best
Ian

Re: Propsed date for Rally to Ashmount

I'll be setting off for the TVR from Teddington on 1/2 May if you fancy catching up on the way.
