I;m conducting a poll of Forumites experiences .... and I need following info : (diesel inboards only please !!)

Boat size
Engine fitted / HP
Size of fuel tank fitted
Average quantity of fuel carried
Average consumption at cruise economy setting

The above would be useful info to many I know - as we all go thru the 'shall we change boat / engine bit at various times ....

Colin Archer 35 ft/about 11 tonnes
45 hp
125 litres, no spare normally
1900 revs/4.5 knots
3 l/h
normally set off full,
usually arrive full too

Westerly 32 ft (Renown)
Watermota Seapanther (27ish hp )
20 gallon
Refill only below half-full and before 1/4 full
Cruise at under 1/2 gallon per hour

Jaguar 27
Perkins Perama M20 - 17HP
15.7 imp gallons(71.4 Litres)
usually kept at least ½ full + extra 10 litres in a can
I think about 1litre/hr consumption but I've never really checked it.

Useful idea Nigel -

40 foot, 12 tonnes with full fuel/water, cruise trim for 3-4 weeks away from port
Volvo Penta MD22L/50HP
320 litres
Tank pressed full on departure, return half full after 3-4 weeks, pressed full on return
Somewhere around 4l/hr at cruise 7 knots against moderate seas/wind.

Gib'Sea 282 - 28 ft
Yanmar 2GM20 - 18hp
50 litre tank
whatevers in the tank plus full Jerry Can
Approx 1.25l / hour

Generally end up carrying more fuel and refueling more than necessary since no fuel guage. PMs from anyone who has fitted a fuel guage to a 282 very welcome !

As details are collected

I will sort into a table and anyone interested I can e-mail a copy later.

Interesting to note that most despite HP / size sit about 1/2 gall / hour.

I have 40hp Perkins and that sits ....... yep you've guessed it 1/2 gal / hr !!

Keep em coming please ....

Forgot - Here\'s mine !!

25ft Motor sailer
Perkins 4107 abt 40 HP
Tank abt 10 - 12 gall (50'ish litres)
Usual throttle about 1/3 + and gives about 4 kts
Cons. about 1/2 gall / hr ..... ( approx 2 ltrs / hr)

If I open up - then maybe hit about 4 ltrs / hr and 7 - 8+ kts..... possibly more !!
