Radio Caroline

You mean this one........

Interiors and close ups on light ship, was it the one tide up along side in Harwich? During filming it was on one of the bouys off Shotley

now I am confused Isn’t,t the Harwich one the Mi Amigo was that not Caroline

The Mi Amigo was wrecked and what's left of her is still out there on the Long Sand

The "Harwich one" is Light Vessel LV18 restored as a museum. She was never a pirate radio station but one compartment contains a display about the ship based pirate radio stations

The one at anchor in the Blackwater is the Ross Revenge, a former trawler, which replaced the Mi Amigo

Perhaps we should organise an ECF trip to Ross Revenge? Her days must surely be numbered and I'd love to have a look round her before the inevitable happens.
Why must her days be numbered? Chipping and painting, and occasional drydocking is all that's needed. The only problem is funding for basic maintenance, if that isn't forthcoming I suppose she will sink; but it will takes years and years.
Aren't there any grateful, multimillionaire rock stars who owe their success to their singles being played on Caroline?

What about some of the now famous DJ's ?

Well ... don't think it's really a lie as such, as best as i recall they don't claim that that Lightship was a pirate radio station just that others were and they tell that story

Either way, well worth a visit

I don't know who that would be.. Tony Blackburn is the only name that springs to mind. Lovely old boy but I doubt he has the rockstar gelt and is entering his dotage.
We were employed in the early 2000's to recommision a couple of old side trawlers in Ipswich, by some wrinkly old pirate DJ's optimistically dreaming of a revival of some sort, but the vessels were too far gone, and the ships were scrapped I believe, after the project collapsed.

I heard the bottom plating got pushed up when she went on the Goodwins, repairs are uneconomic and the MCA put a big fat stop-note on her, basically for ever.

You've answered your own question... Slipping a 220ft ship is hugely expensive and I can't imagine she generates anywhere near enough revenue to secure her future. I hope I'm wrong but I reckon she'll be gone within this decade. 'We' have a very poor record of saving historically important vessels and I doubt Ross Revenge will buck that trend sadly.

Interesting. What i heard, and verified from their website, is that the hull is sound but the steering gear was badly damaged when she went aground and her machinery is suffering from many years of neglect

The hulk designation is actually quite useful as it stands as it exempts the owners from a lot of compliance issues

Whether the finance can ever be raised to carry out whatever repairs are needed is doubtful i do agree

Not 100% sure but heard rumours that a trust fund was set up by Ronan O'Rahilly, which is keeping the ship afloat. :)
The ship was moored for years and years on various commercial bouys around the Thames and Medway, with no obvious income.
Current Peel Port rate is around £400 per DAY.
Unless any outstanding bills were settled the ship was going nowhere.
