Radio Caroline

Must dig out the photo of her moored in the Medway at Chatham, near Sun Pier.
There is a painting by local artist ? of the Goodwin Sands rescue in the Admirals ARM :) micropub in Queenborough.

It is confusing isn't it!

When we visited the ship, it was clear that the pirate radio display was generic and that LV18 herself had never been used as a pirate radio ship (given that she was in commission as a light ship from new until 1993 how could she have been?)

She now apparently has two studios and has been used to broadcast *legal* "Pirate BBC Essex" programmes and i suspect this has been misinterpreted by blurb writers and / journalists

The local rag in Ipswich isn't known for getting it's facts right.....

I, m sure many of the "out sides scenes" were filmed off Shotley on a dressed lightship. The crew were running back and forth from the Marina pontoon outside the lock gates......... But knowing how the memory is.......

I don't know who that would be.. Tony Blackburn is the only name that springs to mind. Lovely old boy but I doubt he has the rockstar gelt and is entering his dotage.
We were employed in the early 2000's to recommision a couple of old side trawlers in Ipswich, by some wrinkly old pirate DJ's optimistically dreaming of a revival of some sort, but the vessels were too far gone, and the ships were scrapped I believe, after the project collapsed.
Although not all Radio Caroline, but Kenny Everett, John Peel, Dave Cash, Emperor Rosko come to mind.
Probably a good few others. How many pirate station were there altogether?

I can only think of Radio London. I wonder where all the vinyl ended up .

I don't recall if any of the above DJ's took taking up sailing after having a taste of the sea.

Back in the 70's i found a load of pirate radio memorabilia on the local tip & saved quite a bit including a lot of photos. Found it in the loft a couple of years ago & donated it to Felixstowe & Offshore radio museum, one of the guys that runs it Brian Nicholls found out that the photos actualy came from a bloke who had lost them years before in a house move & was able to put names & faces together.
There were many pirate stations many quite short lived. Radio Caroline (North & South), Radio Veronica (carolines dutch service) Radio Scotland, RNI, Radio 270, Atlanta, Radio London, Radio Essex & more, Later there was Laser 558, Im sure there were more!
