Radio Caroline

More later is:

"The MV Ross Revenge is now at her new home, moored on the River Blackwater near Bradwell. She laid up at anchor at 02.45 with the tug GPS Avenger alongside.

At approx 07.00 she was moved a short distance up river to the moorings. The mooring work is nearing completion (10.25) and the Avenger has now departed, bound for Estonia.

Currently playing The Kinks!

They say they are not yet broadcasting from her.

Saw her being towed past Gravesend yesterday - the Avenger towing from the front and a little green tug doing some steering at the rear. Didn't know she was on the way to the Blackwater, but she looked all spruced up, paintwork wise. Is she really going to be broadcasting again?

The guys on the lightship by H'penny Pier will know all about it, that vessel is an utter shrine to the pirates!
It will be amazing if she starts transmitting again, there must be millions of us out here who had a tranny clamped to our ear as kids.

I sneaked on board the R Revenge when she was tied up in Dover, and to coin a phrase, she is like a side trawler.. but bigger!
We also took a turn when she was in Queenborough, to wait for a tide, she was a bit rusty at that stage.

What happened to the two side trawlers in Ipswich docks a few years ago? we were employed by a couple of ex-pirate DJ's to flash the motors but they were too far gone.

I went to Bradwell today (not on the water) and was surprised to see the Ross Revenge anchored in the middle of the river. It looked to be half way between Bradwell and the Thirslet buoy. Another thing to miss. I am yet to be convinced that it enhances the scenery....

Sorry I strongly disagree, she is part of Britain's fishing heritage, more than any over-restored CK smack yuppies' toy, with a new mast and a new keel like granny's old broom.
99% of similar sidewinders have been burned, there are a few in eg Hull, GY, and a little one in Lowestoft, plus Oostende of course.
Yes she was built in Germany but she was a Ross boat and a fine one.
The Blackwater should be proud and celebrating.
The scenery of the disused nuclear power station and the ancestral seat of the lord high Wedgewood Benn hypocritical landed gentry can only be radically improved by this hardcore reminder of where fish used to come from.

Not to even mention the cultural heritage, hopefully 'you ain't seen nothing yet' ;) and projects will flower...
all the best Jerry

I've just had a look at the radio Caroline website as I was going to have a listen this evening.

I've discovered I'm shockingly out of touch with pirate radio. An AM radio receiver no longer required, apparently I need to download an app from iTunes!

Still good music, using Flash player on laptop.

Jeez I didn't know that either. Our onboard radio is kaput so I hadn't even tried the traditional way! Just looked at the app and was about to buy but was concerned that my I Pad would get corrupted with the Tony Blackburn virus :)

Having read a bit I can appreciate there is much history here. I shall try to love it.

It seems to be anchored. Does that mean they pay no mooring fees? No problem with free parking, just wondered.

Not a great website but have managed to find the listen now button, so far so good!

Not sure what'll happen when I'm not connected to the internet...
