Radar if only

Having had my boat at Brighton for the past year I needed ro bring her up to the Thames on Sunday last 6th Jan
The boat (Broom 37 Crown) came with a Seaveyor radar (1980) which had been dismantled by previous owner
probably cos the huge scanner made the radar arch heavy for dropping under bridges.
Anyway I never got round to refitting it and thankfully never needed it during the past year.
Came Sunday last all that changed. I got the weather window sussed, southerly 2-3 high pressure resulting in
strangely flat seas for Brighton sea state calm. However visibility 20 yds from outset, resulting in 6 kts with
the two of us straining eyes into freezing mist over upper helm screen. destination Ramsgate 80nm.
10nm later a brief improvement vision almost to horizon, scampered down to inner helm for 20 mins then fog closed in.
Every now and then throttle back stop engines, listen for other engines, proceed slowly.
Particular care past Newhaven & Dover, however made Ramsgate in 6.5 very tiring hours.
Resolve to check out new radars at boat show Sunday.
