I'm thinking about building a radar arch, what material stainless tubing or wood (ply) with glass fibre / resin ?

My biggest issue is cost, it has to be cheap !

Cheers

Sea Screw do them for £450, but i'm not sure how cheap you mean. web page

There's a report of some bad service from Sea Screw on here, but anyway it gives you an idea of cost, and I don't think anyone is suggesting they wouldn't send the goods or they would be faulty, just that they are unhelpful if you have a problem.

The main problem with s/s i would have to get someone to make it which would add to the cost.

Its to go on my Invader 2200, which is based on the early fairlines, so am looking for a wideish arch. It will also be used to mount the canapy as i need to replace it.

Size wise around 3 ft high by 7 foot wide.

In the long term I may put a roof on the boat as well.

I saw a telescopic A frame at the London Boat Show marketed by Barnet Marine for RIBS which could do the job. About £300 I think but a custom built jobbie would look much nicer. Try Mr Stainless

I had an excellent arch fabricated for my Bayliner 2255 last year, then a canopy made to fit over it.

I was fed up with wrestling with the old canopy sticks every time we needed to put it on or take it off. Also, could not run the boat with the old canopy on as you couldn't get through the screen to the foredeck.

Very pleased with the result. Canopy is in four parts (top, 2 sides and back) so it can be used as required:
1. all off
2. top only
3. top + sides
4. top + sides + back.

Steelwork was by Roger Davis near Hartlebury, Worcs 01299 250707, and canopy by Mark Llewellyn of Neyland, Pembs 01646 600112. Both were happy to work to my own design with agreed amendments to ease manufacture in each case. Good workmanship and reasonable price in each case. No connections, other than as a satisfied customer, but would recommend them both.

Happy to demo my setup. PM me if you would like to have a look.
