if you want a toy, its ok to get it from non specialist outlets. But otherwise you ll need a hobby shop for decent advice. Standard electric motor and Nicads will get you going, but expect to be bored after 3 minutes. I mean , really bored.
Then you have two options, fancy electrics-which are very expensive, or glow, which is so noisy you cant use it most places.
You also need somewhere to use it. Dont expect anything electric to last long if you use it in the sea. Otherwise, ask a local hobby shop where the nearest allowed boating lake is, and pop along. Might put you off the idea..!
One thing.. you need it incredibly calm.
Id say £50-75 for a toy for a ten year old. £00's if you want to have fun.

I bought my youngest the exact same boat and I'd say the battery lasts for at least 12 mins. There is no speed control it's either on or off but it's very good value. I also bought a quick charger (£30) and a spare battery (£12). This allows him to play with it non stop, charging one battery whilst he is using the other.

gigm, Plan to use it in france, we live on a calm river so was planning on sitting in the boat or in the house and doing it, then if the battery runs out I can launch my boat to get it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
