I wouldn't buy the HR because of the cost of potential deck replacement, don't know anything about Dufour but like Moody, have had two.

I don't really know the boats, but if they are similar in purpose, buy the best deal, if they are dissimilar, by the one that best suits your purpose.

If you REALLY can't decide, put all 3 names in a hat, get someone to pick one out - that's obviously the lucky boat - and who wants an unlucky boat.

Hard to know without the specifics of each boat, for example does the HR have a teak deck and if so what condition is it in, lot's of other variables

As already mentioned, what sort of boating do you intend to do, ie offshore sailing or nice weather marina hopping ?

Unless the Rassy had a new or immaculate deck, probably the Moody. The Dufour seems to have a central galley one of my pet dislikes.

Really the only thing they have in common is that they are cruising boats of similar size - and there are dozens of others around that could be on the same list.

Nobody can tell you which is best. They are all "good" designs and sold well so clearly meet the requirements for many buyers. Each have their strong points, but if you want to differentiate you have 2 old "old style" centre cockpit cruisers and one designed to a very different brief and design philosophy. You could also say that buying a 30 year old boat rather than one half that age brings in a whole new set of questions as to which will offer better value for money, given that the asking prices will not be too different.

Well I dont know anything about any of them. However perhaps if you really are trying to choose between these 3 specific boats consider the key elements, such as engine type and year. sail condition and indeed age of standing rigging. Going further the level of electronics. Like a simple survey. look at stearn gear. Be honest and not biased and your more easily be able to identify which of the three is the best condition boat. better value for money and less expenditure in the future. Then throw that out the window and just choose the one you like the most. Id go with the one that has the3 best lines.

But I don't see why these threads shouldn't degenerate into suggesting yachts that don't even exist.

The dufour won ips magazines yacht of the year in 2006.. They say its a dream to sail.
The moody is nice but low headroom if your tall and pitifull storage.
After watching rasseys being built on a youtuve video would say its no different to how they build a bavaria with the same "flat pack" furniture assembly so why the much higher price?

I dunno if it's of any relevance but I think Moody & Rassy are both a bit overrated (hence possibly overpriced) whereas Dufour are a bit underrated...
