I bought a Quick CHC 1102 M Anchor Chain Counter at the Kent Boat Jumble. My home-built version had gone on a back burner, although fully working.

It has a connector like this:

Anyone know what it is?

Try this link to the manual:

There's a circuit diagram to show you how to connect it up.

It has CanBus, but you don't need to use it.

I have one connected to a Lewmar anchor winch, just using the the pulse from a reed relay to count the turns.

It's a great bit of kit, it allows me to lower (and raise) the anchor from the cockpit when I'm single handed and anchoring in a tight spot.

The boat is 3hours away, so I can't check out the wire colors to the pins easily, but if you get stuck let me know and I'll check it out next time I'm on the boat in about a weeks time

I wonder whether it's the same connector configuration as the Quick Hypertac connectors, which they sell as accessories. It'd certainly make sense. Failing that, just replace the plug with a waterproof multipin plug & socket - the manual has all the wiring info.

I've discovered that Quick sell spare plugs and sockets. I was just considering putting one on my home-built device if I ever finish it.

I haven't really looked into this aspect, what can you do with the CanBus?

Connect multiple counter controllers together, all the count info is synced between them. Time and dates, alarms, remote control from any point.

In addition to syncing multiple controller, in theory, you should be able to connect the CanBus from the Quick winch controller(s) to an NMEA2000 multi function display (MFD).

This would allow an MFD at the helm to display the chain currently deployed and how quickly it is being paid in or out, if someone was controlling the windlass from the bow. this might be useful.

But I don't know if any of the systems are that joined up, or if the software exists in a Raymarine or Garmin or any other MFD to display the chain count.

I use a simple Lewmar up/down controller at the bow and the Quick system in the cockpit. The Quick system keeps track of how much chain is out even if I use the dumb controller by the anchor locker.
