Question for the med based boys

This thead has got swmbo and myself contemplating a move in the future to somewhere warmer, At present it takes us approx 4 hrs to get to our boat door to door ,that's being berthed on the isle of white and traveling down from Cambs, how long would it take us to get to Sant Carlos say from the time you arrive at the air port, including all transfers ect,
Thanks

If it is any help, we live in Cheltenham and use either Birmingham or Bristol airports, takes 5 1/2 hours door to boat.

Graham

After all the interest in that fantastic SC berth rental. Thought it would be interesting for the Med based boaters to share their costings in the various locations & other factors, we are based in Mallorca: SS manhattan 50

Although we don't charter, it would be interesting to here about rules/regs elsewhere, I understand whilst the Spanish have relaxed the dreaded MAT tax, it forbids owners actually using their boats (which is utterly ridiculous considering most sub 20m charter boats are privately owned & used)

(all per annum, approx)
Berthing rental 15m £22k (Puerto Portals)
Insurance £1.8k
Fuel 1.5e/lt
Lift & antifoul etc £3.5k
engine servicing £3.5k
other maintenance 60e/hr
parts etc 20% higher than UK
other marina visits 70-100e per night (excluding Ibiza!)

Flights average £150pp over the year, we get over 16 weeks use.

Wow thats an expensive berth. We left Mallorca in 2009 but we were paying about €11k pa in Club de Mar for a similar 15m berth at the time. Just for comparison, in Croatia, I'm now paying just over €9k pa for a 17m berth and about €1.1/litre for diesel (last year at least). Labour costs are about €30-40 per hour. On the other hand overnight berthing is more expensive at €100-130/night and flights are usually around £200-250 return. I buy most parts in the UK and ship them out by DHL

Were also in mallorca, but in port adriano.

Costs are generally the same as yours ,with the following exceptions.

Mooring (7m x 2.75m) :4320 euro plus 1100 euro maintenance. We bought the lease though so just pay the maintenance.
Servicing : varies from 1000 euros up to infinity depending on what has broken this year per engine/drive.
Lift out and back in again : 200 euros
Antifoul : 600 euros (7.5m boat)

Port Vauban, Antibes, 12m boat:

- mooring cost €82k for 9.5 years
- service charge is about €1600 pa, offset by rental income on the berth when you are away
- servicing - UK rates plus about £300 t&e to bring an engineer down from the UK (split between two boats, so £150 each pa)
- lift, block off, antifoul, launch - €1100
- flights - about £130pp if you pay for them, but very good availability for air miles flights if you're in one of those schemes

Like Deleted User, I buy service parts in the UK and ship them down. Oil and coolant is bought locally for about the same price as the UK. It only goes wrong when you get unplanned maintenance - last year it was the lift pump on the fuel filter assembly; it was cheaper to buy same-day flights and get it in the UK than it was to buy it off-the-shelf in France...

The other cost is ground transportation from the airport to the boat - depending on your taste, this can be cheap bus (€1), posh bus (€10), train €3.50), taxi (€65), scooter (about €1200 pa) or chauffeured port car (you'll have to ask jfm...:D).

In return for all that I get about 10 weeks use per year.

Just stunned as to how much you guys are paying to play with your toys.
This is for a 13.5m mobo
Boatyard I.5 hours from Athens 3.5 hour fight from Heathrow. Average flight cost £200 pp.
Lift in and out €500
Monthly storage €275 per month
Clean and polish €500
Anti foul €500
Engine service 2x 450 hp DD's. +1 x Onan 8kwa. No problem with spares €1500 all in
Harbour fees, from nothing to €20 per night depending where you stop.
Oh yes and now a potential tax of € 900 per year if they manage to implement it.
Last price for Diesel € 1.47 per litre.
Price for a decent meal € 25 per person with wine
I have to conclude that despite the annoyance of the tax it's still worth every penny.
I night in the boatyard, launch next day, over 1000 islands to visit.

You didn't mention the two weeks free maintenance labour that you get off the YBW forum ... :D:D

You can't blame an old man for trying, can you
Sorry chaps I don't mean to rub it in, but I just booked my free lift and scrub with the marina at Sant Carles - we get one per year. They did want an extra 70 euros to hold in slings for an hour over lunch though! Very helpful staff at MDL-SC.

Looks like this marina will be impossible to beat for such good facilities and value, just four hours or so away from Barcelona, Valencia and Mallorca!

Down in Torrevieja I pay 4500 euros for 15m berth inc 1000 euros Valencian G5 tax (robbers).
Fuel @ 1.35e/l,
electric and water - in three years @ 60 euros total
lifts, lift and hold for really good jetwash and put back in 220euros.
Antifouling last year @ 1800euros inc lift, wash, sand/scrape + 2 coats, but just copper coated so hope to kiss that goodbye
Servicing - I usually do most myself but have paid @ 1500 euros inc fluids and filters. Usually buy filters etc in UK as they are a lot cheaper. fluids obviously have to get locally.
40 mins from Alicante, 25 from Murcia (san javier). Flights vary from £50pp (ryanair out of season) to £250pp July /August per person but tend to take the car in the summer.
Use - all year except Feb - April
Weather - last week it was 23 degrees, sunny and flat calm

There are a lot of marinas near Torrevieja and quite a lot of commercial fishing and ferries. Maybe its dearer in Mallorca because where are you going to go instead?

Hi Kashurst

I am considerng renting one of the many houses that need an owner in Torrevieja and would welcome any idea of places to visit, restos etc. …… Not by boat as I am doing a reccy initally early next week. I wonder if you have some suggestions? I know Alicante a little but Torr etc is new to me.

Many thanks
