Queenborough Visitor Moorings

Hello again All,
I would like to up-date everyone with Queenborough Harbour.
Between July and August we will be changing the hours of the trot operation. As you all know it is presently running Friday to Monday 08.00 - 10.00 and 16.00 - 22.00. We will be changing the operation during July and August on Saturday and Sundays to run 10.00 - 22.00. Other times will remain in place.
We would like to thank everyone for their positive comments, and we will continue to improve the facilities whenever we can. If when visiting you would lie to come up to the look-out and perhaps sign our visitor book you are all very welcome.
Recently some of our mooring holders have started using the free trot boat service to ferry them to their boats instead of getting the dinghy and out boards out. We are hoping this will continue as we see a free trot boat service as a positive point for mooring holders as well as visitors.
I wish you all a very good sailing season, and hope to see you in Queenborough.

I really do wish you the very best of luck with this.... its a great location for the Thames or a slow cruise round North Foreland for those of us based in the North of the Thames Estuary.... its also fantastic to see a locations where people care enough to try and make it a success.

I'll add it onto my list of places to visit again soon, as we've enjoyed visits in the past, and remain keen to try and support 'proper' east coast venues!

Phil who some of you may know collects the fees and runs the trot boat is changing his hours during the weekends for the season. He will be working from 10.00 – 22.00 on Saturdays and Sundays if busy. Mondays he will be working from around 09.00 and will leave around 17.00 again unless busy.

The trot boat is free and we look forward to visitors coming to the harbour. You are all very welcome to come up to the office and sign the visitor’s book and add comets. We would like to hear from people with suggestion on how we can improve the service, though we are governed by economics.

I think I spotted Phil last weekend?

Repaired yesterday. From FB page-
Following urgent repairs, the ATL has been reopened. Many thanks to David Price & Peter Marchington.

I hadn't thought to look on FB. Only closed since Saturday, they did well to get it repaired so quickly.

"This afternoon, during strong SW winds, the walkway to the ATL parted. At present the ATL is closed, altough vessels can still moor on the hammer head. There is no access to the shore.
We will be assessing the situation in the morning to see if repairs are possible."

At present the ATL is up and running with no problems for visitors. The Trot boat is running well and the mooring lines on the visitor buoys have been replaced. Queenborough welcomes everyone to our town, and hope you all have a pleasant stay.

On a slightly sadder note. The local council have denied QHT retrospective planning permission for the harbour look-out. At present it is not known what QHT will do about this turn of events. With little money and a very loud opposition to the harbour trust and the temporary harbour look-out, it is a possibility that the personal financial costs to the few trust members is just too high.

It is also in the balance if the ATL will survive another winter. The structure is now reaching the end of its life and requires high capital expenditure. The decision is in the hands of the All Tide Landing Board and Queenborough Yacht Club.

The fact of the matter is without a harbour look-out and an All Tide Landing the harbour Trust may have no option but to cease Queenborough Harbour Limited from running. This would essentially mark the end of moorings in Queenborough.

QHT will endeavour to provide as good as service as possible until the end of this season. (November) After that the future of Queenborough is unknown, but I hope that the QHT will be able to weather this storm like all the others this season, and that next season will see the harbour once again improving and being better than this year.

Very loud opposition??? What do these people think Queenborough IS? it's a historic port I thought. The harbour lookout would have made me and,I am sure others, happier about leaving our boats and dinghies, when I saw it there I thought, job done, nice one.
And now people object to it,I know it's only portacabins but it was a great idea to build up the place as a yacht harbour. Do these people think it will spoil their view? With that attitude there might not be any yachts to look at in the future, have the objectors noticed the massive chemical factories, defunct steelworks etc etc in the area??
The objectors are probably the same scrotes who gave the town a reputation for tenders being stolen, like old time wreckers objecting to lighthouses.
I will be back anyway, best of British mate,Jerry

I really hope QHT can weather this and survive.

We will most likely be paying a visit next week on our tour of the Medway & Swale.

As a frequent visitor to Queenborough, sometimes I really do have my head in my hands when I hear the arguments surrounding the ATL.

If I had the funds I'd buy the ATL outright, run the moorings and help regenerate the area - something it needs. Same goes for Sun Pier in Chatham. Watching one of these places grow into something special could be a real legacy for someone brave enough to spend some cash.

It's the same old story though - for every good idea you can find 3 bad things to say about it - unfortunately bad things are easier to think of than good ideas for some.

Hope it works out.

Any chance of turning it into a PLC? I could be convinced to buy a few shares...

Sorry about this......I'm probably being thick but having flitted through the previous posts and not having visited before I can't seem to find what the ATL actually is?

I'm sure it will be obvious!

Perhaps I'm in work mode still.

Alright!

You can have Sun Pier, soon to be renamed 'Maby Pier' and I'll have the ATL - 'Xyachtdave Landing'...

I think they'll need a few more investors than the two of us!

Seriously, though, when a small country club that we were members of ran into trouble, they floated and various members bought shares - it stayed afloat. There's a lot of sailors on the Medway - if you could get them to buy a few hundreds of pounds worth of shares each, it could raise a lot of money.

I'm interested, but not selling my house interested to get involved!

Chatham redevelopment appeals - with a euro millions win in my back pocket - there'd be sandy beaches and everything next to Maby Pier.

I'll do a few hours on the pier on Saturdays collecting harbour dues, soon get the money back...
