We are considering buying a Canadian registered boat here in Martinique. The process seems straightforward. Martinique is outside the European VAT tax area.

We will be spending more than six months a year in the UK due to family constraints so will register her Part 3 SSR.

We do not intend to bring her to Europe ever but hope to cruise to the Pacific and onwards.

Can you see any potential administrative pitfalls.

Thanks.

Can't see any problems. The boat does not have to be in the UK to be on the SSR and that registration is acceptable world wide (even though it was never intended to be!)

Petronella: what Tranona writes is correct (as usual). But be aware that SSR is only open to UK residents and that in recent years they've tightened up on the checks for this. From what you write you certainly qualify, but I suggest you take care not to give the registry any cause for doubt.
