Pubs in Lymington

Can anyone recommend a nice pub in Lymington? I'm taking some friends there on Saturday - it'll need to be easy walking distance from Berthon Marina. One of them is an Aussie who likes quaint English pubs.
Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

I like the Mayflower next to the RNLI station, but the King's Head is a popular choice for yotties. Both are close to Berthons.

+1 for the Mayflower, not pretentious.
Max quaintness at The Kings Head at top of Cobbles (Quay Hill)
The Ship inn on the Quay has good location but gets very busy and they dont have to try to hard....
Bosuns Chair on Station Street is down to earth locals pub and easiest to sit down for just a drink.
Others further away. Always seems to us to that there arn't that many pubs in Lymington (near the water at least) consideringthe size and location of the town.
It would appear to be wise to book ahead if you are planning to eat from what we experienced a couple of weekends ago.
 
Yacht Haven, Mayflower, Shipyard, The Ship, Kings Head, Angel & Blue Pig, Stanwell House are all within 10 minutes walk of Berthon.

Haven has the best food but you'll be lucky to get a table with this short notice. Mayflower also do nice food now - it used to be chips and seagulls in the garden. The Ship is hit and miss and I don't usually bother. Kings Head is quite small but sometimes a good atmosphere. Bosuns Chair is a spit and sawdust affair. The Ferryman does excellent food but not really walking distance as it's near the Ferry Terminal.

Rivaaz is an excellent curry house if you fancy one.
 
Kings Head would be my choice, used to use Mayflower as well but not been in since it was refurbed, tried calling and emailing but got no reply so didn't bother again. Haven is also nice since it recently reopened.
 
Unless it has massively improved, then after a long wait at the bar a drink at the Ship is OK but eating has been very delayed and pretty poor. Kings Head for your mate for the pub effect and a beer, but the Mayflower seem to make an effort all round and is probably the best bet for the meal.
As others have said, book if you want to eat.
 
Whatever you do would avoid Stanwell House for any food even it looks attractive and has space if you try to book. KiNgs Head is close but do book however food and service both good . The Ship is fine if happy to just drink but food not outstanding. mayflower and Chequers fine but former does tend to be rather mass market. If all else fails have a look at reviews on Trip Adviser but pub restaurants are limited in quality in town however this is clearly dependent on your guests expectations and there might be hidden gems just an uber ride away if a country pub is required.

Get a cab to the East End Arms........if you want food I would advise you to book. You (and your friend) will not be disappointed. It's approx 3 miles out of Lymington.

Some end up as swish Restaurants such as the Fleur de Lys at Pilley.
In Lymington s case the demise of Wellworthy however was a huge nail in the coffin, and I can remember there being at least a dozen pubs in the High Street alone.
Most are now offices or Estate Agents.. including my favourite the Anchor and Hope.
The Chequers in those days just had casks lined up on trestles behind the bar..
Those were the days..
