Yes agree - I'm not quite sure when the front desk thing started at Fairline but that was not the cause of the lost sale as you point out. maybe it introduced after my 'event'.

Interestingly Fairline was the only stand when each time I went I was asked " where do you do your boating" as a sort of are you a tyre kicker question - the girls were all friendly and SWMBO nattered away to several of them whilst I did my stuff looking at boats that various friends are considering and the new Sq50 too of course.

I also take your point on senior staff CEO etc has always said 'hello' and welcomed opinion etc.

They only do that so that they can identify who 'your' area dealer is and identify the relevant salesperson. That is part of the problem though. You have to wait for 'your' salesperson to be available before they let you on a boat, even if you're only tyre kicking for future reference

Oh! Well I always answered where I boat and said 'I'm just going to look at XYZ' and walked O/B. The dealers i know walk past with / without clienst and say 'hello' and that's it.

Never had a problem myself - although I do 100% agree its a barrier that harms relations not assists, and it as a hurdle which is not 'in the spirit' of ''welcome to our stand"

As you know Fairline provide neck ribbons and a VIP card as a sort of get in jail free card - never had use mine when offered. Princess its a 'stiffy' card invitation to enjoy their hospitality which has never been out of its folder and sunseeker I dunno 'cos I always ask to see so and so and he's on parade pdq or I am asked to enter the inner sanctum whilst he delivers himself :)

Actually, IIRC
London Boat Show this year saw JimmyTheBuilder JFM, MJF and us enjoying a coffee etc in the Princess hospitality lounge - no salesmen anywhere to be seen. To be fair to other builders, we just happened to be on the Princess stand so it was convenient. However, thinking about it, there weren't any gates so maybe thats why we were on that stand anyway!!

bit late with this comment too but in Fairlines defence they treated us very well at last years london show on a busy saturday and without an appointment. The lady on the front desk dealt promptly with our request and introduced us to 2 salesmen, one based in SoF with whom we have subsequently formed a good working relationship.
Nothing was too much trouble for them then or since
