Propeller repair

Propeller has a few nicks around the edge, I have seen some videos on youtube where people has files the edges to blend this in, wondering if this is the approach I should take or if the nicks are too big and a more substantial weld and reprofile by a professional will be required.

What do people think?

If the photos colours are accurate then I don’t think a professional would do much to it other than clean it up due to dezincification as I understand it in which case I would do it myself
If you use a template of the blade it goes a little to help with balance

If that's really as pink as it looks I'm afraid that a few nicks are the lesser problem. What does it sound like when you tap it, and what did your anodes look like?

Thanks all for the replys, the pictures make it look a little pinker than it is in reality, although my first though when I cleaned it up was that it did seem a little pink.

I did give it a hit round the edge and it did seem to ring quite nicely, although as its the only one I have to hand I don't have anything for comparison.
Anode was just about depleated (maybe 20% left) when the propeller was removed, obviously got a new anode for when it goes back on.

Is there anything else I should be doing to check for dezincification, i.e try to clean up with a wire brush to see if its just a surface effect?

If you do need a professional firm I would highly recommend Hamble Propellors - Coal PArk Lane, Swanwick, near the entrance to Eastlands Boat yard.

I've never had one get like it, so no expert. @vyv_cox would be my first call.

My own guess would be that you've not got much to lose by reducing all the tips equally, and in doing so you'll get a look at the metal inside.
