Anybody know what size thread Jeanneau (Sun Fizz circa 1986)put on the prop end of their shafts, I have tried the nut on an M20 threaded rod, it screws on easily but there is a lot of play indicating its something different?

Just tried the old nut on the shaft again quite a lot of play there too, so in a bit of a quandary is it M20 or not? Could be a French M20? Cant see them using whitworth but then again .......

Oh to be in England now that Aprils here...

Anybody know the Greek for - can you make one of these with a dodgey M20 thread?

Think I'll just pop down the taberna for an excellent repast and worry about my new prop falling off tomorrow.

Bruntons seem to have either gone bust or have had an extended bank holiday in honour of the celebrations - meanwhile the pound burns - Gordon told me we were well placed to survive the recession - I think he meant he was.

A Greek machine shop will definitely do it, most of them are superb at anything like that. Measure the diameter of the shaft threads, count the threads per cm or inch and give them the info, plus the nut. If you are in Preveza there is a good shop there who did my shaft, turned it down to fit my Autoprop nut. Cost me €20.

Prop Shaft Thread Size

I would be surprised if Jeanneau fitted anything but metric. Beneteau from my experience are metric and Bruntons are pretty good at supplying information for "standard" yachts. There is an ISO standard for prop shaft diameter/thread/taper etc (IIRC).

Perhaps someone has replaced the original prop shaft at some time?

Alan.

nuts, tapers, ISO4566?

wouldn't jeanneau likely use a standard threaded taper like ISO 4566 ?
order thr shaft the nut comes to fit. dia=30 mm, prop nut 30 mm threaded to fit the shaft.
this from a prop shaft machine shop i am dealing with :
Shaft 30mm L=1500
Craftsman Marine propeller shafts are made of the very best stainless steel quality available. The machining and keyway cutting is very precisely done, all in accordance with the ISO 4566 standard. After the machining of the shaft, our Craftsman Marine experts pay special attention to its proper alignment (the shaft being totally straight), so as to avoid vibrations on board to the largest possible extent.

Attention to detail, also when it concerns so-called “simple” components of a boat, like a shaft, ensures the required comfort and quiet on board when under way.

Thanks guys - Viv can you remember where the machine shop was in Preveza?
Nikolaos at Preveza Marine arranged it for me but I'm pretty sure he took it to the chandlery/machine shop in the row along the side of the marina, not far from the port police office. Looking through the shop window (rarely seems to be anyone there) the floor was liberally strewn with stainless shaft rod.
