Is it possible to adjust the bottle screw under the drum on a profurl without taking it all down? Can you jut take the drum off?
Or do I have to take the mast down and take it all off to do it?

Depends how much forestay you have poking out of the top of the furler tubes.
Undo the two black plastic nuts by twisting then 180deg. They have a hole in the nut so you can use an Allan key or an adjustable.
Pop these out and the two metal plate slide out so you can lift the drum to gain access to the bottlescrew.
But if the furler tubes are right to the top of the forestay wire you're a bit stuffed.

Taking the mast down seems a bit extreme. You could swig up a halyard to act as a temporary forestay and then undo the forestay and swing it to one side, e.g. onto a pontoon, to do the work.

You probably would not get it over the pulpit to do that. Plus re fixing the fore stay will be difficult as the assembly is quite heavy.

I have done it myself. The forestay/foil sags so much once undone that there is no trouble getting it out past the pulpit.
You have to slacken off the backstay a lot to be able to undo the forestay and, yes, the weight of the foil makes handling it a bit of a pain. I did it on a 27ft boat, perhaps it would be impractial on a larger yacht.

I made the comment because we always drop the masts on our club cruisers for the winter. When re erecting , if we do not tip the mast back whilst on the crane we risk kinking the foil in trying to get it over the pulpit & it always causes a problem. I felt a warning wise. But to each his own.
