Problems with Volvo shaft seal

I have just replaced my Volvo seal because it was of an unknown age.
After getting advice on here i have now fitted a Radice seal.
Getting a shaft through a gap with little or no tolerance is hard enough. The shaft was shiny, and soaped but I found it very difficult to get it on with the plastic seal protector in place. It kept pushing it out.
I eventually got it on but, I don't know if the protector did its job properly. I don't suppose there is any way of testing it before launch.

too much grease is a known cause of the seal weeping. If the boat is ashore remove the seal, and wash out with paraffin.

Do you have any more information on this.

My 3 season old Radice seal starting weeping after going back in the water early summer. Gave it a bit of grease during previous haul-out.

Due out again next week with a view to drawing the shaft for a good look at it all, but the seal seems no longer to be leaking. After reading your comment I wondered whether it has been a build-up of grease that caused the problem. Am in a quandary now with what action, if any, to take.
