Probably the best marina in the world?

Thread drift!
If Carlsberg built a marina I am sure they would market it as "Probably, the best marina in the world".

So what would make the best marina in the world if you were giving them a few ideas and in real life where is the best marina you have visited.

Close to town centre, reasonable showers, pleasant staff. Ramsgate it is then:D
(stands well back)

+1 I had a very happy year keeping a boat there, and I'd add in excellent restaurants too (the Thai and Bon Appetit). Not in my top ten for visiting but a really good base.

For being great shelter in a lovely spot, then Korcula Town or Concarneau would be high on my list.

For facilities then Concarneau probably had the most revolting night loos I've ever encountered, so for launderette, showers, shelter, restaurants and access to a nice town then I'd go for one of the big concrete carparks, perhaps La Rochelle or Pornic in Brittany.

It appears you weren't using the automatic self-cleaning loos at Concarneau?

Thats Flores, Azores, but not a marina. Lovely.

The perfect marina is having a month or ten free to enjoy the anchorage. :)

For me the perfect marina should have a choice of various shower types so that depending on mood I can have different shower experiences...oh and there should be shoe warmers so that when I get dressed I feel all cozy :D

Your own lift out facilities built into every pontoon and a plug in point next to the boat for wi fi, water, electricity, tv and cold beer.

Best Harbour master I'll give you,.. but come on........ :)

Portavadie in the UK .....Roach Harbor or Gig Harbor in the Pacific North West. Difficult to pinpoint one.

Tom
Stopped in Portavadie after a cold, wet passage: the blokes showers had mood music playing and were equipped with hair straighteners!
Great place though; very luxurious, drying room for oillies and 10 meters on all the berths.

Portavadie is good, that's true. I'd put them second after Berthon in the UK though for two reasons:
  1. No shoe warmers
  2. Hair straighteners

Sorry, men need warm shoes more than they need straight hair :D

Berthon in Lymington can satisfy both of those requirements ...... in addition to the heated floors and mirrors (so they dont steam up).

I've really enjoyed quite a few west coast of France marinas, but often it is a matter of timing. For example a lot of French towns have music festivals in Summer which is why I've enjoyed Vannes, Les Sables, La Rochelle.

Indeed, that was the one I was describing, and the reason Portavadie is no longer my number 1. I do like the sound of a heated cupboard for oilies though but guess that works better when the only escape for a thief would take several hours :D
