I am a fellow Privateer owner who has owned our boat, Calico Jack, for some 5 years. No, I have not tried either of the suggestions that you have put forward, but have found that I can raise the centre plate up into its housing when we are at anchor and sleep soundly "without things that go bump in the night".

I gather that when these boats were being made they came with the option of a large jib, almost a genoa. Do you by chance have any details of the size of this sail, or any other information that you think might be of interest? For example is there an owners club?

Please contact me via the E mail NigelAmes1956@Yahoo.com

Thanks,

Nigel

Still can't find anything on Privateers on the net,(limited on browsing time).
My hull number, I think, from the small plate on the transom is 6144.
Sail number 'P 1'!! I have a'Yankee', 75sqft, jib, on an old Holt-Allen furler.

'Lo again,
I just acquired my 'Tern 2 II', (nee"Missi Lee") end of last season.
The hull number, I think, from the small plate on the transom is 6144.
The sail number is 'P 1' !! The large jib I have is called a 'Yankee', 75sqft. and it's on an old Holt-Allen furler. Dimensions, I'm afraid, will have to wait 'til the end of the season.
Do you know of any Owners Association or the like? Looks like there is 4 of us 'in the same boat', so far, excuse the pun.

I acquired my Privateer,'Tern 2 II' (nee "Missi Lee"), gaff-rigged cutter, at the end of last season.
The Hull number is, I think, from the small plate on the transom, is 6144.
The sail number is 'P 1' !! The large jib, known as a 'Yankee', is 75sqft; I haven't the dimensions yet either. My yankee is on an old Holt-Allen furler.
I insured my boat with same brokers as the previous owner, also enjoying an RYA discount. That also avoided a new survey (est at approx£200!!). The company they used has since given up small boat insuring and resulted in another(larger, well known) company being offered, but at 30% increase! So, I'm in the same boat now, looking for new insurers. If your boat is in good condition, well fitted out and on(or have) a good condition trailer, it should be in the region of £3500.
Hope this helps.
