Just purchased a privateer 20. Would anybody have any knowledge on them. How many were built and what years they were in production. Any other useful information much appreciated.

According to Hoskyns Yacht Directories' 'The A - Z Good Yacht Guide' -

'PRIVATEER

19' 7 1/2" LOA; 6' 10" Beam; 4' 6" Draft (lift keel).
4 Berths
Outboard engine

Different, with clipper bow and short bowsprit and choice of Gaff or Bermudan cutter rig. useful interior and well finished throughout with sensible outboard well. Easily trailed, flush bottom and popular since early 70s.'

I had a vague recollection it was built at one time by Smallcraft of Blockley, which seems to be confirmed by the website linked below which, despite its name, has some other information on the Privateer, including that the designer was Norman Howard. (I once had a different Norman Howard designed, Smallcraft built sailing boat, a 'Shipmate Dayboat', and was very pleased with it . Albin Vega 27 yacht designed by Per Brohall. Information/specification

Note that, especially in that era and with small boats, they may also have been built by other companies, sometimes with different quality construction and changes in detailing, layout, rig dimensions, etc. so do not rely too heavily on e.g sail measurements, etc. without checking!

Hope you have lots of fun in your new boat.

p.s. There's a Privateer owners' group here - Privateer20 groups.io Group
