Princess V39

Lisa
Ref squadron 42 and engines, it comes with the 370 or 435 D6s. The 435s are obviously better. Most are specced with the 435s; very few are specced with the 370s. So if you are looking at a used one you'll more often than not find it has the 435s anyway

Reference helmsman visibility, as people have said the view might be better when the bow is lifted 4 degrees but of course during the pootle up/down the hamble the boat will be flat. You therefore need good vis when flat AND when 4 degrees bow up. The current Fairline targa 50 is fantastic on this score (I have driven a couple of them on long passages) but a fold down step might be the only answer in quite a lot of boats

Hi Lisa - Paul - The new Princess 43 will also have 500hp engines fitted as an option so will easily do 30 + knots when fully loaded :encouragement:

Lisa a V39 owner has his boat moored @ Swanwick which I was informed off @ LIbs yesterday - ask the owner to take you for a quick blast ...

Hi Lisa,

The V39 at Swanwick Marina is owned by my friends, Penny & Steve, and it's called "Gite"......if I recall correctly, it's berthed on 'B' pontoon.

Cheers, Allan

John....thanks for that info. Good to know.

Alan...thankyou. I'll introduce myself at some stage and pick their brains.

Hi Lisa,

I tested the V39 for the magazine last year and have to say that the visibility is very good. During our close, high-speed boat-to-boat photo shoots I usually have to stand to give myself the best view out but on the V39 I stayed sitting the entire time - a rare thing, I can assure you!

[shameless plug]Here's the vid we did on test if it's of any interest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrjOA9kIxRM[/shamless plug]

Cheers,

Jack

I'd not seen it so thanks for that Jack. Ok so planing is not an issue as far as forward vis is concerned but how did you find her off the plane? For me I'd say we do about 50/50 so off the plane is equally important.

In the scheme of things when considering a several hundred thousand pound boat, it's always possible to lower or heighten the helm seat, even if it means cabinetry work. I didn't like the flybridge layout on my boat, so I changed it all round. With any boat, you need to decide if you can live with the things that you can't easily change.

From memory there was no issue at displacement speed either. I'm 6ft(ish) so it may just be that the helm position worked particularly well for someone of my height but when I think of that boat I don't think of issues with visibility.

There is no QSB 6.7 500 rating, it is 480 then 550 same CPL therefore cost Delta not great, suspect 550 will be rating offered for greatest smile factor....

Managed to finally get to LiBS today and had a great time with some lovely friends. Most of our time was spent flitting between the Princess and Fairline stands along with another quick perusal of the Sealine s450 which is always in the back of our minds.
Now that the Fairlines have gone for the more 'straight lines' interior, it's fast becoming a bit of a favourite with me and the same with Princess. Took a look round the Targa 48 open and the GT's but the helm positions are all wrong for me tbh. I don't get the logic of having the helm seat to the left of the passenger helm seat at all. It just means the helmsman has to move to let the passenger get out of their seat. Whether it would be a deal breaker, I'm not sure but it certainly puts it way down the list for sure.
The Squady 42 however, ticks all the boxes in the respect of both helm position/s and interior design. If we were to consider a fly, this one would certainly be at the top of the list.
Then I took another look at the V39 (saw it at the Swanwick show last year) and I have to say I'd love to have one. It's just perfect for us in every way EXCEPT (and rather importantly dontcha think?) the windscreen is just too shallow, putting the top frame right in your eyeline when sitting which means, when the weather is less than favourable and you have the roof closed, you have to bend down quite significantly (I'm 5'7) just to see where you're going. Even with the roof open, I had to tip toe just to get a half decent view thru the open roof and then it was a struggle. From memory, there's no drop down board to stand on to peer thru the roof so this is a massive let down as far as I'm concerned because, as I've said, this boat was just perfect for us in every other way.
I don't get why the screen has to be so shallow, I really don't. It has to be purely aesthetic which, imo, is madness. To compromise visibility for a certain 'look'?...surely a bad move? Adding another 4 inches to the screens depth wouldn't make much of a difference aesthetically surely but it WOULD make helming so much more relaxing and less of a back breaker...wouldn't it?
That all said, I've not sea trialled one so I could be being negative for no good reason. Are there any owners who can say the forward vis is perfect for them? (especially with the roof closed?)
I'd love to be proved wrong coz I really like it.

Be interested to see your thought processes evolve on this one Lisilou, as I would like to think its a "problem" that we would tackle one day, but I think we are 3 or 4 years behind you ....

It certainly won't be this year Andy but like most I guess, we're always thinking ahead and drawing up that short list. For us, it's always been the sc42 (s450) without any question but now, seeing what's coming thru, we're thinking again.

We saw the 450s and definitely liked the look of that for our next one (our own feeling was that that the v39 was "more of the same" - only prettier) but we are still licking our wounds from the last purchase, so we will have to be patient and carry on dreaming ........plus the boys are hounding me for a Jet Ski this year <cringe>

As you say though, in 3 or 4 years time the market will probably be different ...

Soon be time for the bonus cheque....... I can see you back in Swanwick in the Spring picking up a bigger boat!

Hope the family are all well and Newton Abbott hasn't dissolved. Hope to make it back south again this year in Hunros, hopefully for a longer stop this time so perhaps we can manage that BBQ this time around!

I think saving rather than spending this year Paul! As for the BBQ you are definitely on so let me know when you are around Torbay and we'll firm something up even if we arent down on holiday - we may even try and have some mackarel ready ! Tom is doing his Day skipper theory at present so is itching to get some night hours in for his practical.... "dad can I borrow the boat ?" .....

The first thing to show him when he comes to do the practical is the fuel filler cap........
