Princess announce world premier for British Motor Yacht show

The good old days! It would be great to have Princess's 3D model for the 75.

are you trying to get some people such as yourself, Huricane, the Barke bros, and Princess
and not to forget Mapism, in a kind of partnership, :)
would be a fantastic project on a very nice looking boat :encouragement:

I like your idea of the aft staircase from lower deck right through to the FB and I don't think it would loose too much floor space.
You loose in one place and gain in others.
Would probably split the lounge (saloon) area from the dinette area but, IMO, that is a good thing.
Personally, I'm not keen on the stairs over the galley - it puts them more in the centre of the boat and I think they work better offset to the side of the boat.

Another consideration that is "kind of linked" with this is the owners cabin bathroom.
IMO it needs a bath - something that SWMBO would want in a new boat.
So there would need to be enough space for a bath if the staircase from the lower deck were to be moved aft into the wardrobe.
Obviously, a new wardrobe would need to be where the current stairs are.
However, as you say, a mod of this size is something Princess are not famous for.

On the subject of galleys, the SS 86 has a tremendous range but the galley is ridiculous for a boat that size. Compare it to the SS 75 which has an open plan galley and it is much more appealing. The stairs to the cabins on the 86 go down the centre as opposed to the starboard on the 75. Not that it is likely to trouble me nay time soon of course.

Yup, a bath is nice. The princess 75 and 78 just don't lend themselves to it because their bathrooms are so short fore-aft. The p78 has a bath option but it is ridiculously short. You need a proper 1.8m or preferably 1.9m bath (depending how many people you want to fit in!) not a 1.6m hip bath
I also agree that splitting the saloon area from the dining area isn't a bad thing especially if done with a bit of funky staircase design
Mike if you do spec a boat with a bath, I have found that end access like pic below works perfectly well (that is a 1.9m proper bath). You do not need side access as you would have in a house. I have a sturdy handle (RHS of picture) to hold when stepping in/out in case the boat moves. I feel no compromises with this and would do it all again on a future build (in fact I did)

To this day, and I have been on some VERY big boats, I don't understand the need for a bath...or a cinema for that matter.

A hot tub just about, but that's on deck (providing there are crew to bring you drinks and towels..) Too much fun to be had elsewhere than siting in a bath although I have a feeling I might live to regret that last statement.

Maybe its a personal preference, I have only used the bath in my current house about 8 times in five years! and yes I do shower ;)

I had an idea on the bath.
Leave the bathroom partitions as they are.
But recess the foot end of the bath into the cabin.
There is currently a bedside cabinet which you would loose but the top of the recess could still be a bedside table top.
I don't think you would need much depth to accommodate a standard 1700mm bath (or even 1900mm - wow you don't find them that big in houses these days -water restrictions etc).
Side access as well.
This design would work well with the revised staircase taking up bathroom space.

But I didn't think of an end access like yours.

...recess the foot end of the bath into the cabin.
Yup but that makes it a strictly one person affair. :-)
Seriously, I don't think you should allow design features like this into your head when speccing something as fabulous as a princess 75. Recessed foot end is just too campervany. The bath needs to be grand and installed in a manner befitting such a boat.

It's a boat not a house ,would not like to blur the boundaries between the too.
So for me a bath would be a no no .
Unless on a ghastly Carnival cruise linner having paid for a "premier cabin " ( along with balcony ) -so,s to brag at the dinner table to poorer folk that my cabins got a bath while quaffing Paul Masson wine :)Pretending I,am enjoying the experiance .
Nope bath in a boat -is a nod too far to floating appartment.
You will never get a floating version of what an architect can create on land site -bathroom wise

Hmmm. Where do you stand then on dishwashers, meile ovens etc, nice showers, freezers, comfy beds, china plates, Bang+Olufsen et al, and wine coolers? Are you drawing the line just at a bath? :D:D

Hmm, staircases are real thieves of space. Outlaws had a very beautiful four storey townhouse for many years, but the loss of floorplate owing to the stairs was something to behold. With the constraints imposed by even a big f/b boat it's no wonder manufacturers hate offering internal stairs.

Nope ----
Seen 1000% + rise of paddle boarding around Cap Ferrat , Cap d Antibes -

Does not mean you can,t choose go afloat without a bog ,Music , cooker , bed , fridge and all of above .Even a copter -plenty do .

In a "campervany" sort of way I think in the med a shower ( inside or bathing platform ) -is enough for all to mint up after dark pre dinner .bearing in mind you've probably lost count how many times you been in for a dip @ anchor in the season .

Loads of cool looking Guys + bird (s) rock up at anchorages in. €1M Riva,s 52,s and others like Montecarlo 30' 40 , etc without a bath - although probably are sat by there pool in Cap d Antibes villas while you are having a bath .

To balance maybe ,just maybe if you use the boat for extended living then suppose agree -make it homely if you can .
Kinda extends the season too , you can have a hot soak inFeb / March while the reverse A/C is on warming the boat .

How ever for a seasonal summer boater In the SoF or any where in the Med . -a bath hmm pic the scene it's 8 pm 88 oC ,the A/ C is busting its balls ( despite Trop spec ) -every body is on the 3rd bottle of rose + ice , the air is hot /humid and full of Mozzies -
"excuse me every one -I,am off for a hot bath "
Returns with sticky linen clothes -deodorant not working cos it's been sprayed on wet armpits due to humidity :)

Why not ( if not in port ) turn on the lumishore s and jump in ? - erh and shower off

Yeah, but...it's not just for getting yourself clean. A shower is fine for that. A bath on a boat spells decadence and is a talking point. Pull up an armchair and chat whilst the occupant and his strategically placed loofah wallows in the deep end, an Old Fashioned in hand.

Nice bit of strawmanning Porto. But gives away how you'd run the show not me! :D:D

Well I had a good look around the P49 today and it was....er....nice.

No doubt, very well put together, all the furnishings were very pleasant, lovely modern fabrics and colours.
And princess do the best helm seats for my money.

Galley aft was nice.
Mid cabin was nice.
Bow cabin had the ubiquitous scissor berth

Still, for all the benefited of ips:

No full heigh fridge freezer
No crew cabin (not even an option)
Bunk third cabin
Small flybridge
Cockpit felt tight
No internal steps/hatch
Ok size saloon but no separate dinette (though the galley was quite a large section of the saloon)
Ips only

It was all nice, but nothing was ooooh lovely.
The new SS52 looks like a better package - I don't know how much bigger it is though compared to the princess.

I'm not there this weekend but did take a look at the 49 in the week, my view is its too tall for its length , the side windows make it look tall and short.

Went to the show today. Managed to have a goot chat with the Fairline guys and had a good look around the boats before it started pissing down.

Saw PEJ of this parish striking up a conversation with Russell Currie regarding the Sq55 that he's selling (see other thread).

Highlights were the SS95, very impressive, particularly the owners cabin but didn't half have a lot of steps throughout the boat. P49 very well designed in every way if pods are your thing. Would be nice seeing it back to back with the competition.

Met the owner of the Sq60 who I suspect is another member of this parish and measured his boat up for a stainless name. Really nice chap and beautiful boat.

Richard Bates on excellent form but unsuccessful in his efforts to persuade me to borrow more money and buy a boat from him! Had a good chat with James Barke too and he's now on the lookout for 1/2 a Phantom 40 for me.

Unfortunately I didn't see HenryF - must have been on his lunch break :),

All finished off with a very nice Ham, Egg and Chips in the bar for £7.

Considering entry is free of charge, what's not to like!
