Decent machine imho. Would try to get the D12 engines, rather than 122ps, as D12 is excellent, quiet, clean, fuel efficient and edc is good stuff
But for one problem, I would suggest putting another 50k into the equation and getting a p56 or Sq55. For that small size and ££ jump you suddenly get a load of big boat features that the 52 doesn't have, eg utility room, bathrooms where the shower is in a separate cubicle and the whole room doesn't get wet, separate dining table banquet, bigger galley, internal stairs to fly, side door from helm or saloon to side deck. All good stuff to have. But the problem is both these boats have ladder not stairs from cockpit to flybr and that isn't good, will drive you nuts after the Azi 46 (apart from the last 20 or so Sq 55s, 2002/3 onwards, where they fitted stairs). The p52 has stairs
So that rather puts the Kaibosh on Sq55 or P56 imho. Unless you get a 2000/01 Sq55 and get a stainless steel+ teak fabricator to make the flybridge stairs retro fit? When Fairline switched to stairs they made them in a stainless frame rather than GRP moulded. Same as the later phantom and Sq58 staircases. £2-3k tops. That would make for a great boat, with all the above bigger boat features. Very large bathrooms, and owners cabin is bigger than Sq58.
Tend to agree with you on looks inside and out but P52 falls into the category of 'lotta boat for your money'
Layout changed quite substantially around '99 which was only 1 year after intro so Princess must have cocked up
Nice idea and I agree extra space worth having but I'm trying to keep boat under 15m mooring limit and even P52 is pushing that.
On D12 v 122P, I was surprised to find D12's are heavier and one broker has told me that D12 boat owners complaining fuel consumption worse than 122P but then he had a 122P boat to sell!
Hmm I can believe D12 heavier, tis a big engine availale in 800hp version. 14 litres I think. It's a slow revver, you will cruise 1650rpm a lot of the time, nice
I dont know specifics on 122 consumption but struggle to believe the modern lectronic D12 doesn't beat it hands down. We get .75mpg at 19ish knots cruise with 2x D12 715s in 58footer, which is pretty much the same as we got in the phantom 42 with 63ps. I was amazed how efficient the D12s were.
They're also quiet and smoke free. And they tend to be painted white which makes for a nicer engine room.
With all those benefits, I wouldn't mind a bit of weight in a 52 footer
We had a 1999 P52, with D12 605 hp, she was brilliant, I did all my tickets on her and went though some pretty big sea, Loved that boat, but she took a long time to polish.
