Managing quite manfully to suppress my being a bit miffed with boat being out of action, decided to take the wife out for the day to look at ...........some boats.
First up was princess 38 (68k)with pair of 220 hp mermaids.Boat had not moved for couple of years and was fairly unloved everything was bit tired including gismos in wheel box,ie loads of loran and decca gear along with a depth sounder that Noah could have used, plus a giant radar scanner.Midships twin berth cabin took up most of usable cabin space unfortunately.
A quick look in the engine compartment revealed neglect as did the rather wiffy bilges.Hobbs meters showed 1400hrs.
Then on to a Cleopatra 38(59k) have always fancied external design of this boat and contruction of hull looked beefy and good quality, but within looked like one of those traditional london pubs with acres of dark wood and most unusual interior layout, real killer however was tiny forecabin.Did not bother with any further investigations............So whats next?

It amazes me how such boats maintain such values.

I know new ones are £200K ish, but when they get to be 20 odd years old, they do tend to be very shabby, unless they have been 'maintained regardless of cost'.

My initial plan on selling the B27, was to buy a friends P33, but closer inspection made me realise that just about everything needed replacement; windows and seal, upholstery, water system, toilet, tanks, deck fittings etc. etc.

I could have spent 2 years and £10K on it and it would have still looked 'tired' in many areas. I guess most £60K 35 to 40 ft 20-25 year old cruisers need a good £20K spending on them, without even considering the power units, to make them presentable and relaible.

So why do so many people still shell out so much for them?
