For obvious reasons unsure when boat will go back in the water. Want to Primocon the steel keel having treated it with Fertan. Data sheet says you can antifoul over primocon only up to one month after using it. doing The Primocon is a job I would like to get on with and Fertan has a limit of 6 months after using it before overpainting, have done the Fertan already. Anyway, forget the timeline. Has anyone successfully over coated Primocon after a longer interval than 1 month.

Manufacturers write stuff for a reason. It might be arse covering but when you throw your toys out of the pram they will ask the question, 'how long between applying our product and antifouling?', then turn to the judge when you give your answer.

I’d prioritise getting some primer over the fertan - rather than the antifoul o/c interval.

I’m sure the antifoul would adhere fine with a light key after any length of time. It’d probably stick without too!

Does the paint system allow a second coat of Primocon, say in the Spring? Then your a/f would go onto fresh Primocon.

There is no max time before overcoating with Primocon itself
Why not apply 4 coats immediately then apply the 5th coat just before antifouling

+1 for the Jotun. I think you can put Fertan on Fertan if you dampen it? Worth checking.
+1... Was going to say this, but sound like a broken record (or Jotun sales rep!) on here already. Can’t see why you’d use anything else.

And while I’m at it, why not something like Jotun Penguard ZP so you have a water resistant epoxy coating with anti corrosion properties. Just applied a whole 5L tin to our cast iron keel (that was after blasting though).

I have a rough iron ballast keel and eveything falls off it, I just use up token dregs of a/f on it, anything else is a waste of money.
