Price Warning - as if you need it!!

Just went to buy a Coolbox for the boat.

Having searched "Marine Chandlers" I found that (including VAT) a 24 litre "Frigobox" would cost me anything from £59 up to a staggering £69.99 (bless you Yachtpeople).

I decided to check out other sites.

Enter "towsure.co.uk" (caravans, cars, camping that sort of thing) and found an identical 24 litre "Frigobox" on sale for £53.

If we assume that Towsure are making a profit (a fair assumption I think) then the "rip-off" factor for yachts and boats is anywhere between 11% and 33%!!

Are we being taken for mugs or what??!!

Best regards }(

Have you checked your local LIDL as they have on offer a standard size cool-box that works on 12v ( cigarette lighter plug) for only £20 and I bet it will work off yacht batteries as well !!!

Re: Price Warning - as if you need it!! THANKS

Thanks for the information.

I finally ordered a 24 litre one from Towsure.

Three reasons:

1 Size v. cost it works out quite well.

2 It has a separate lid so that taking it to the Supermarket on holiday I don't have to hump the cooling element around with me.

3. Finally - getting it by post saves me an 80 mile round trip into Aberdeen which is my nearest town with a Supermarket!!

Thanks again - and best regards )

Check power consumption

I've got a LIDL coolbox, it's great, but it does draw 7 amps - make sure your batteries/charging circuit are up to the draw, as they warm up fast when switched off.

Re: Check power consumption

Or do what I do, use batteries when under way and shorepower when in the marina i.e. 240 to 12volt Converter with a cig style connector, from my local camping shop (about £20.00).
