Price of marina shore power!

Thanks for reminding me of this -we have just our Meaco set to one teardrop put on this weekend and just put another £10 on card at Haslar as seemed to running low so will look later this week to see what remains. We have nothing else on in terms of tube heaters etc .

Meaco units draw a lot of power if not kept on lower settings. I noticed a huge difference between high and low current draw.

Marinas are not allowed to mark up electricity costs, same as landlords etc.Beware of comparing your unit cost at home with what the marina charges. You’re on domestic rates at home whereas marina rates are commercial.

Electricity costs have risen considerably recently.
At RCC we have just combined the two cables which originally supplied the clubhouse and floating pontoons seperately with a single source of power, resulting in a considerable saving on some standing charge or other . £1 - £2K.
Never the less the cost per unit of electricity has risen per mooring.

A more controversial move was to insist that any member offered a mooring would be charged for having a power point irrespective if they used it to obtain power or not.
The cost of installing and maintaining all power points was simply divided by the number moorings as a charge included in mooring fee.
Apparently folks were complaining that they should not contribute, due to non use.
All members know exactly what we pay for power and also what the club charges each user.
On recent stay in a MDL marina, charged £5.00 a day , two options ......................Whinge or get your monies worth ?

Just received the latest invoice for our electric. £63-00 for approximately 3 weeks of dehumidifier use, plus the battery charger,
Does this should resonable?
Just had the November usage report from Berthmaster. 96.485 kWh@£.2688=£24.7+5%vat. Marco plus heaters on for 2 weeks of that.

I recently got my annual electricity bill in, €176 for 1 year with Hunter and 6 months of Casper.
1 x 125W tube heater under the engines, Victron inverter/charger for house batteries and start batteries.

A dehumidifier, according to lots of Youtube adverts, costs about 5-6p per hour to run (at home not at a marina).
We have a compressor dehumidifier at our house in Scotland, Oh boy does it use a lot of electricity! Not sure on the actual figure it was a while ago that I looked at it, but I do remember I was surprised at how much.

Interesting, as of yesterday I reduced my dehumidifier to a lower setting, hopefully it will reduce the usage/cost.

No idea about mine yet. I have to use a Meter Maid but the marina don’t have any and it’s taken a while to find one so at the moment I’m on free vend.

I’ll turn the dehumidifier down a bit once I plug the meter in this week though!
