Good question too, and MUCH more challenging, sadly. Suppose we went a step further, and asked for designs we claim to admire, from this century?

The short-list grows suddenly shorter. :(

Whatever happened to the original question, which was production boats. Surely that means the must still be manufactured?
Folkboats are built, H-boats are. Even Knarr probably is produced (still vote it more beautifull than H-boat, though perhaps not the Requin) in more habitable GRP version Knarr Variant. http://images.sokbat.se/upl/normal700/uimg-knarr-variant-022933.jpg

For beauties of XXI century?
No Idea if really this century, Daniel Bombinger passed away in 2003 iirc...
But this is the idea. http://www.classic-yacht-design.com/4dreams/drfo.jpg

There are more new classics - it seems there is a market for those fed up with ugliness and computer-made ***t - just a minute...

Hear, hear. The Knarr is beautiful, though scarcely built on modern lines?

Hitherto I've generally favoured the Spirit designs for not trying to squeeze eco-max accommodation units into their narrow hulls...

...but here, I'm wondering if (to some) beauty is simply synonymous with slender...

...and just as there have been contests of slimness (presented and often perceived as a stand-alone symbol of desirability) amongst women in the public eye, Spirit Yachts seem to have sacrificed a fair amount for their winsome form, quite a risky path if their market wanted plenty of usable interior space for its money...but evidently they don't! Who am I kidding, I'd pick a Spirit design too...

...although what I like least about them are the extreme keel-proportions and the high aspect rig.

:D
Some preferred practical tubby caravan, but still traditional shape... https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/344zCzpzJScIW-G5doyKSdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink

Well, some others are happy with Vegas; then Knarr Variant would suit better, know of 5 big guys that could fit in for a week's crossing. Lines? knarr hulllines.jpg

Yes, there is something in sleek wooden racing machines, though perhaps it's first love best remembered?

Prettiest production yacht

I just thought I should try to add a bit of balance here as everybody is cheerfully slagging off all their favourite ugliest sailboats in Jimi's thread......

There are so many I could mention here, it is difficult to choose..... has anybody got an absolute firm favourite (apart from their own vessel of course!)?

Solaris 37 or 44 new www.solarisyachts.com

An older Grand Soliel 38 or 44

or my favourite a Poncin 44 or a Poncin 34

I was very excited to find an advert for a new company called GT Yachts in YM yesterday
Never heard of GT Yachts but the new GT35 looks very much like the Sadler 340 that never was (moulds never finished after the sad demise of Rampart Yachts a few years ago).

Looks as if they have not finished one yet as all pictures on website are computer renderings. Designed by Stephen Jones who designed the Sadler 290 and 340. SJ also designed later Southerleys, Hustlers, Sadler/Starlights and Discovery etc.

I wish them well and hope that they build them.

A good looking UK built production yacht of a sensible size to take over where Moody and Westerly left off. Rival to Najad, HR, Arcona I guess but prices not listed on website www.gtyachts.com

The profile reminds me of the Nicholson 35, which is good enough for me.

There is room for more British built yachts, that is why I was pleased to find out about the new GT35
The Rustler 37 is great but not to everyones taste and £306,000.00 sounds like a lot to me for a 37' yacht
I look forward to hearing from GT Yachts after Easter as I have emailed them to ask price
The GT35 looks more mainstream as if it would compete against modern French, German and Swedish yachts
I love Holman and Pye designs reminiscent of the Rustlers and so if was in the market would be looking at a used Soveriegn or Bowman
Ian Anderson designed Soveriegn 32 is a great looking boat
Bowman 46 yawl is great looking and they are cheap
