The feast of Carmen is celebrated in Empuriabrava. All the fishing boats dress with flowers and there are fireworks on the beach at night. Wish I was there now instead of sitting at home with Covid!

There's an old saying - There are no atheists in a storm at sea.

I'll bet the Good Lord hears a lot of unfamiliar voices on the night of a F9 :)

Frank Dye, famous for open sea voyages in his Wayfarer, quoted that saying in his book and added that "the sea has a way of reminding us that there is something greater than ourselves, and that life is not as certain as we would sometimes like to believe". I know that many of us feel that way, regardless of our particular views on the hereafter or the life force of creation.

To each his own. I am thankful that my C. of E. upbringing and family tradition have left me the ability to recall the naval prayer that begins "O Eternal Lord God, who alone spreadest out the heavens, and rulest the raging of the sea..."

A Finnish sailor we've met says he laughs and shakes his fist at the gods of wind and thunder and shouts: "More! More! Bring it on!"

So far he's gone unscathed himself, although he breaks a lot of stuff on his boat! :)
Were I God, that's exactly how I'd punish him. Oh, and the wind would always be on the nose. A big wave followed by "interview without coffee" just isn't subtle enough.

What a blessing, that we don't always get what we deserve! I know that I have squeaked by situations afloat that should have ended differently.
