Can anyone recommend one? Something that teaches you the basics in an easy to understand way.

Try a local yacht club, get some basic tuition, most will be happy to help, then read some books.

The Kiss Guide to Sailing is very good, IMHO.
If you can't understand after reading that a few times, you will save the money you would have spent on basic tuition. You can then sell the book or give it to a friend.
If you do understand it, the mental theory will have a synergy with basic tuition, you will get much more out of it.
Some folks learn a lot more from books than do others. Nothing is a magic formula.

I reckon the 3 RYA booklets entitled: Competent Crew; Day Skipper; Yachtmaster are a good starting point; very well illustrated by Dick Everitt
And, if you can find them, a series of reprints of articles from PBO written by John Goode many years ago, also very well illustrated by Dick Everitt. Titles include Let's do it under sail; Handling under power; Handling emergencies and one describing simple coastal navigation techniques and another on making a Channel crossing for the first time.
