I am using a 10 inch tablet as a plotter using My Harbour Charts. I keep it plugged into the boats 12volt supply when it is i use and I am wondering what sort of power consumption it will use. I know the screen is power hungry but it can been set to go to sleep after so long but still update positions. Does anyone know what the tablet would use with and without the screen. The charging spec is 2.0 amps at 5 volts so 10 watts, it guess this will be the maximum.

There are lots of knowledgeable folks out there on Computer matters,

Hope someone can help

My 10" Motorola Xoom (rather old now) runs at significantly less than 1A with the screen on continuously. Memory Map
(So little, after using a laptop that I didn't need to monitor it on a boat with one 100Ah house battery)2016-08-24 20.55.57.jpg

I run a 7" Android tablet with MemoryMap for navigation. I disable the automatic switch-of as I cannot get it to maintain the track record during sleep. To keep it on, I use it connected to one of those 7500 mA/h power pack battery banks.

Doing this, I have used it to track the position of a cruise ship that I was on all the way from south of the traffic separation zones off L'Ouessant to Southampton, over a period of about 15 hours, which it did quite happily. On my own boat, I do the same, but a I sail only during the day, I recharge the power pack overnight from shore power or a USB thingy plugged into a 12 Volt cigar lighter socket
