Potential Uk bureaucracy issues if you sail off for a few years?

If you rent out your house it isn’t your residence and your tenants are well within their rights to either send back mail as not at address or to add you and require you to pay council tax so be careful. The new laws on renting are making it harder to get away with such things.
I think that only applies to a long term rental. Our house is used for short term holiday letting, usually 2-3 day stays. I don't think people who are on holiday count as tenants.

It was the council tax that pushed me over the edge into selling my house. Not so much the money as how it was used 😂 oh, that and the charge doubled if I didn’t actually live there 🤷‍♀️

Sorry, rambling angry old man…

Children's rights to university fees being paid by the government in Scotland can be impacted if you and your children are non resident. However, it may also be associated with not paying tax, as well as non residence. I lived abroad with my family, non resident, not paying tax in the UK, we sold up and left with a 3 and 4 yard old. This became a potential issue as we would return to the UK many years later and at that time there was limit on years in UK education (as well as residency) for the university fees to kick in. As it turned out, we returned and my son attended secondary school full time, and the issue was never raised.

Good point for future readers, my 3 kids are all well finished their university/apprenticeships, which were all in england anyway, so no issues there for me.
