I am seriously considering a year in Portus Karalis, Sardinia.
Any comments good or bad would be appreciated.

Yes, but really like the idea of 7 mins by train from the airport for £1.15!!!!Hi Simon
Have you thought about Carloforte - it is worth the extra transfer time.
Just for the record, we used a good taxi service from the airport to Carloforte but it wasn't £1 !!! Also, you have to take a ferry across (one of the old Whitelink IOW ferries). But IMO, it is worth that extra transfer.Yes, but really like the idea of 7 mins by train from the airport for £1.15!!!!
We do go a lot in the winter as well and prefer to be near / in a city if possible. We will certainly be visiting Carloforte though.
Hope all is good in SCM and we do plan to return again at some point in the not too distant future!
I spent several months there onboard and never had any problems with security.I have quote now and I am sure the location is good for us. My only concern is security, does anyone have experience of the marina?
I have to disagree, M.But IMO, it is worth that extra transfer.
Than you, great info. I have asked if possible for the darsenette.I spent several months there onboard and never had any problems with security.
But there is one thing which can indeed be annoying, and it's the massive wakes created by the harbour tugs, when they move around at 10 kts irrespective of harbour limits, and with complacency of CG. The consequence is that you may experience some bad rolling, completely out of the blue (even if just for half a minute or so), so you'd better avoid leaving your bohemia crystal glasses around unsecured.
Other than that, it's a fantastic location, right in the center of Cagliari (which is a very interesting and lively town), at short walking distance from the train station that brings you to the airport in less than 10 mins.
For a long term stay, imho it's hands down the best location in the whole Sardinia.
PS: depending on the size of your boat, you may ask for a berth in the smaller, separate basin called "darsenetta".
In that area, the drawback I previously mentioned of navigation wakes is totally non-existent.k
